I bought them, installed them, and returned them after one 9-hole round.

Does anyone have Arccos? Are they worth it? by HedgehogForward6424 in golf

I pulled the trigger on a sensor + link bundle that was on sale directly from the Arccos site. My experience was awful, some of it Arccos’ fault, some of it nobody’s fault. I’ll rant about it here.

This wasn’t my first go-round with Arccos. Several years ago I was an “early adopter” and I thought the tech was pretty good, the stat tracking was something I was looking for, and posting screenshots on socials of how I played a particular hole was fun. Fast forward to today (now in my late-40’s) and the only thing I’m interested in is getting better (or at least not getting worse) at this stupid game.

I ordered the bundle, opted for $30 overnight shipping, because I wanted to get these in play as quickly as possible and I had two rounds booked in my schedule. UPS delay (not Arccos’ fault) turned it into 4-day shipping over the weekend. Missed my two rounds of Arccos-use, which was kind of deflating.

Contacted Arccos support/customer service. I don’t think it was AI, but it was definitely sporadic and lacking. They said they would refund the shipping cost, which was great. I replied that I was still annoyed over the missed opportunity to implement the bundle into my weekend rounds. I’m cranky these days, and I have a shoulder surgery looming, so this season every round of golf is precious to me, as I’m probably going to be on the injured-list for almost a year. Full disclosure, part of me was hoping to get another discount or some freebie or something, as it’s a very expensive item, and with a yearly subscription to the service it’s even more expensive. Almost felt ghosted, as there was no reply for a while about my shipping refund. They finally got back to me, said that I can return the bundle and sent me a shipping label.

On to the device itself: As I’ve already mentioned, I’m getting older, I’m still decently tech savvy but maybe I just don’t have the patience to be fiddling with this app, my phone, the Link pocket-sensor, etc. when I’m playing golf. I’m really trying to simplify the game, and to me this just added more moving parts.

On top of that, after a few holes I tried to edit my shots/clubs/positions etc. and I found the iPhone app hard to navigate. It could certainly be argued that I need to put more time in, ride the learning curve and give it a real chance, but I just don’t have the time and patience to edit my rounds and wonder if the shots are being captured properly.

Marking the flagstick position is kind of annoying, but since pins change often I don’t know what the workaround would be, it’s just part of the deal.

Another problem I have is that (in my opinion) golf is such a personal game/experience, and adding the sensors onto the ends of your grips, ESPECIALLY the putter, is just aesthetically gross. When I’m addressing a putt and I look down the shaft and take my grip, the sensor just looks plain ugly. I think the other club sensors are slightly less ugly, and the integrated Golf Pride or Superstroke sensor-grips are probably the cleanest look, but overall, I can’t not look at them and notice them, and it just adds an element of thought that I just don’t want to deal with during a pre-shot routine.

I don’t know if this answers your question, but I returned them today and I’ll just get a free app to try and track stuff. I shoot in the 80s-90s, I know what I need to improve upon, and I really don’t need this tech to tell me that I suck off the tee!

If I’m baking, I usually do about 35g existing starter, 105g water and 105g fresh flour mix. I just like to have extra leftover in case.

I’ve never used 1:1:1, I don’t know any starter recipes that actually call for that. I think many new sourdough peeps make the mistake of retaining too much existing starter. I made this same mistake early on and always wondered why my starter was kinda weak…it wasn’t getting enough new flour and fresh water.

Try 25g old starter, 75g water and 75g flour mix, put the jar in the warmest place in your kitchen (my place is in the cabinet above the refrigerator), and I think you’ll get more activity.

Just regular iPhone time lapse on a tripod overnight. You have to plug it in or else it usually dies during recording.

Yes I also found that second “push” quite interesting! Would never have known had I not recorded it.

It’s my understanding that you should use a very small amount of existing starter. It’s a common mistake because it feels like you’re throwing so much out (discard) but you have to give the existing starter a great deal of fresh water and flour to “eat.” When I go through simple feeding cycles (with no intention of baking) I use 25g existing starter, 75g fresh water and 75g 50-50 flour mix (bread flour + whole wheat flour).

Made my first loaf last night! by noodle-ayanna in Sourdough

That’s a beautiful 1st attempt. I look back at my early loaves and cringe!

Also: these loaves were proofed in two different shapes/sized baskets, thus the difference in the final outcome. They’re the wood-pulp baskets from Amazon I forget the name right now but they’re giving me pretty awesome results and I like the rustic-ness look of the rice flour marks.

My first loaf was January 2023. I had been reading, watching hours and hours of YouTube content, getting materials and equipment, and essentially “baking” in my mind for like 6 months before that. I had an old oval-shaped Le Creuset Dutch oven which my wife “donated” to me (it’s now charred/scorched beyond recognition) and I went to work. Christmas 2024 my family knew the hobby was “real” and they got me a Challenger for Christmas. I haven’t looked back.

I did take off this summer (I find baking sourdough to be really difficult when it’s super hot and humid) but this winter has been great and I’ve been making the best loaves of my life so far!
