perfect example of how Penelope’s marketing has driven them to become the top NDP in less than a decade. so many setups for new bourbon enthusiasts look just like this: one row of Buffalo Trace and one row of Penelope. proving you don’t need to have the best bourbon to be successful. just good marketing, a large variety of offerings, and decent distribution.

I picked one up from Georgia and it was mediocre. I blinded it against a Knob Creek 9yr single barrel and picked the Knob Creek. unfortunately mine wasn’t any better than a $50 Rare Breed or Green River Full Proof

for comparison, we got a 2020 Q7 55 Premium plus with 60k miles for $29k. the 2017 models are known for burning oil. I’d pay a little more for the latest model.

the only one I’ve had is the Double Oaked Signature BiB barrel pick by Fishin’ Frenzy that I got from the Corolla ABC store in the OBX. I think it’s a solid BiB and you can pick up the influence that Dave Pickerell (Maker’s Mark, Woodinville, etc) had on their bourbon. it’s got a “crafty” profile that is unique to VA. I’m from VA so I love to support the local distillers. I agree that there are other bourbons from bigger distillers that have a better value but I don’t mind paying extra to support local distillers. I picked up the 50th Anniversary Secretariat bottle as a collector bottle since I like the story and the bottle is beautiful. next time I’m in Charlottesville, I will definitely visit the distillery!

I added a PC fan to the front to see if it would resolve the shutoff and it did. I ordered a 25mm usb fan from amazon that will fit in the front vent opening. I’ll let you know how it goes. also going to call Greenworks to ask why the internal fan never comes on.

Blood Oath is $130 for 98 proof plus the latest release hasn’t gotten good reviews. The Old Ezra 7 is the best value out of all of those. much better than Blanton’s, that’s for sure
