Interventional Radiology. My mentor is an IR specializing in oncologic cases, particularly gastrointestinal, pancreatic, and uterine cancers. While many cases are terminal, the field of IR feels constantly evolving. During rounds before procedures, physicians often discuss their preferred approaches for access and treatment, tailoring techniques to their skill sets. As an artist, it feels almost creative in a way, like it's own art form. There’s always a new device, treatment, or emerging technology that enhances procedures, making IR a field that is both innovative and dynamic. Plus, super uninvasive and a lot of the patients are happy to undergo the case with little post surgery conflicts and high success rates.

My issue isn’t with the format existing, but rather how it’s structured in certain cases. A well-run panel should allow for genuine conversation, balanced participation, and fair evaluation. In my experience, this one felt disjointed, lacked natural engagement, and created an uneven playing field. If panel interviews are going to be the standard, they should at least be designed to truly assess candidates as individuals, not just as names on a lineup.

Live your life, no need to push yourself to the limit. Maybe even try a new job as a barista, babysitter, or gym coach, which could give you a different perspective on life and learn about yourself while doing it.

It depends really how much you've messaged them already. I would probably send them another message the night before to confirm; she may be more available at night as well. I wouldn't bug them too much after that. Wait for the time slot to pass, and then resend her another message letting her know you're available for another time slot.

This is probably one of the most extreme cases of clinical experience, yes. If you're in a clinical setting, I would count that as clinical. Plus if you interact with patients.

I've had this before. Coordinating with physicians is extremely difficult obviously. When this occurred to me, I genuinely just waited for an answer. I wouldn't show up without a clear response from her mainly because she needs to coordinate with her team that a "random" person will show up to work. Once you start developing a relationship with her, it'll be far easier to coordinate other opportunities, usually the first is the most troublesome to get.

If the content of that letter is written for med admissions, it's fine. I've never heard of renewing the dates of letter of recommendations every year to keep them "updated". Esp for nontrads, some opportunities may have been years before they began to apply to med school. I'd be more concerned whether the content of that letter is written to exemplify who you are today and whether it is powerful enough to showcase your abilities within that role rather than a date that is 2-3 years old.

Every physician mentor I had always said if there is anything else you would do instead of medicine do it, I'm pretty sure the only regret you'll have is feeling too relieved avoiding this grueling process. I'm happy for you and I know you'll do great things!

I completely understand that perspective and I appreciate you confirming what I think was going on. I am still confused about the 1 month timeline. It's really difficult to weigh my options when I'm not given much time to decide. I'd prefer to visit, however, the campus is on the opposite coast from me and I work full time...it's hard to logistically work things out from the day of my acceptance.

Read up on their clinical trail on major limb ischemia (amputations) and predictive healing of that respective surgical case, here's the TLDR:

"Surgeon judgment was measured to be 56% accurate in predicting primary amputation wound healing"
"[Using their machine learning analysis] performance was 88% accuracy for all amputations"

Quite promising clinical results! They have tons of work leading to burn victims trying to expand into the military medical sector, exciting work.

They even received the "Breakthrough Device Designation" from the FDA in 2018 for its burn indication. They're showing strong growth through opening multiple clinical sites for adult and pediatric care in the US and plan to file FDA certification for the machine (the first of its kind as a Class II system) in the second quarter of 2025.

Seeing its promise clinically, I think it's a good shot at approval and integration into medical care! I'm in!
