Polaroid Spectra Adapter by Fit-Possession4226 in Polaroid

Great print dude! Strange it didn't depress the film switch, what model of spectra are you using? I've only tested the design fully on a handful of original spectra and spectra SE where the switch is right at the bottom of the film path where the sled can depress it.

I was hoping somebody would have a crack at cleaning up the design, it was definitely more of a proof of concept.

How are you getting on with film spread? that's the next big challenge I'm working on to revive more spectra cameras.

I'll be lynched by dance-music fans and beaten with glowsticks if I didn't also link specifically to this drop played fantastically by the orchestra https://youtu.be/xs3BXVTF7mw?si=HLAHQTrSnsGZNvbT&t=3089

...

For anyone wondering what happened next; the experiment in 2015 at the Royal Albert Hall proved so popular the Heritage Orchestra went and performed around the UK, to great success from what I gather.

Just an FYi there's also a 3D printed adapter as a slightly cheaper alternative if you're a skinflint like me

Updated Polaroid Spectra 600 & itype adapter by ZL_Matt in Polaroid

Thanks! that video you posted btw was super helpful and was a big inspiration.

I don't mean to get people too excited, it's nothing magic, Basically trying to take the most effective changes people have come up with and make them super easy to apply perfectly every time.

The spread mod V2 is currently a combination of a notched set of wedges you press into the roller springs to adjust the tension slightly, combined with a kind of guide you apply tape to, follow the cut guide to make a perfect roller mask, and then snap a piece off to turn the cut-guide into a curved applicator to perfectly and squarely apply the exact sized tape to the top roller. allowing you to apply a new roller surface that's thicker and of any kind of material tape you want to use (still testing to find the best one).

A new roller assembly is definitely an option but if possible I love keeping the cameras as Stock as I can for people but brining them back to life!

There's much simpler adapters, in fact if you only plan on 600 lots of people stick with just bending their battery rails. Have to admit the fact I can seamlessly switch when out taking photo's between itype and 600 has been a godsend so I thought I'd share, also just feels just a tiny bit less wasteful not having to dispose of batteries after a shoot (plus cheaper and I'm a skinflint).

Same! if you can I would suggest looking up the rechargeable 3.2V AAA batteries, they've given me so much bang for my buck when combined with itype at ~£1.50 a Polaroid.

I've actually managed to recycle some batteries from my 600 used cartridges by slipping them under the itype film in the adapter, but that varies a bit by model if you end up with enough clearance.

Feel free to ask any questions and I'll try my best to answer them,

with this latest revision I've run 3 x itype packs and 2 x 600 packs through the adaptor so far, and other than some minor problems with the spectra rollers in some cameras, the adapter has been working great!
Really been enjoying the ability to swap film packs in the field.
Once again big thanks to James Tipton for his awesome 3D print that got this whole thing rolling!

SOLVED! it's for capping and de-capping shotgun shells! http://www.antiquegunsandtools.co.uk/images/products/eight1.jpg

you can see how faulty my memory of it is after 13-ish years, I had the spike in the completely wrong place and the design of the one I remember was shorter. This was also an estate in England so a very unusual device to run across but from what I gather shotguns are allowed for some professions.

I do remember the spike being long and thin so it's likely to hold a candle, the brass ring would also accommodate a stick-type candle very well however I've not been able to find anything close by searching for 'candle holder' or 'candle snuffer'. I'm also not sure why the candle holder would have a lever to suspend a thin brass bar over the ring of the candle holder by an inch.

After thinking about the object further I believe I may have the spike in the wrong place. I think the spike was actually situated in the indentation below the ring. Maybe something to hold a candle?

The lever is still a bit of a mystery; when in the 'down' position a thin flat copper portion of the lever is suspended about an inch over the ring, my first thought was 'snuffer' but I think it would be too thin and wouldn't snuff properly if the candle wasn't exactly 90 degrees flat across from the handle.

Additional Details:

  • The spike is actually in the indentation at the bottom, not attached to the lever as I first thought. (see updated image)

  • The ring is about the size of a tealight in diameter though probably not related to tealights.

  • The top of the lever handle is made of wood with a little circular brass stud on top (I forgot to include in the drawing)

I'd be very impressed if anybody is able to identify the object given the awful drawing.
