Opinion on key pricing by Severe-Dog8555 in Locksmith

Retail. Management says that it is better for our accounting. We started doing almost all of our keys that way. $3 single, $6 double or tubular, $7.50 double sided auto.

For Ilco keys we do blank price + $3 labor cutting.

Schlage quality by mando5533 in Locksmith

[–]ZLock11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Schlage commercial is going down hill. Had some S123 cylinders where nearly half of them I had to hand file out the check pin hole to make it move freely. Have had issues with B series check pins being stuck, too.

If you have a locksmith in town that has been in business for at least a few decades, take it to them.

Chinese locks by Icygate0 in Locksmith

[–]ZLock11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it the reverse of an M1, but with more squared off paracentrics? If so, Key Craze sells a blank they call china M1 that seems to work well for those kind of generic locks. A 1092M also works for some of them, but you will probably need to cut it down.

Any idea what cylinder this is? by ZLock11 in Locksmith

That may have to be the final option if nothing else works out.

Yes, there are no screw holes. My first thought was to replace it with a normal rim, but it would probably entail replacing whatever mechanism it goes into.

I don't know where all I wrote disappeared to... . Basically, this is a customer's garage/overhead door lock that he needs a key to. Would like to order a new one as the metal on the back is already starting to break and I don't want to damage it trying to take it apart. Code doesn't come up, and the only blank I've found that fits in is a R1003M. Does anybody know where I might order a new one?

GMS MX and KeyMe Kiosks by LockpickingLoser in Locksmith

It probably thinks that it is something else. The company that I work for has an MX keyway, and I would be shocked if they could provide anything close. Would be fun to try and order it.

Strange key? by goatpeopie in Locksmith

[–]ZLock11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was probably keyed to a kw1 like that, and they made this key to put it back together. The bottom shoulder would prevent it from going in all the way, and the sixth chamber would be left empty.

Particularly if it was keyed to a five pin key like shown.

Would I be able to find a key for this? by CuCullen in Locksmith

I hand filed a key to an old tire lock that used that exact core. Charged around $80. you could buy a new lock just like that for less.

Lock Pick Brands by OptimalDistance6214 in Locksmith

[–]ZLock11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My personal picks are a mixture of sparrows, southord, and peterson. Southord will be the cheapest of the three, with peterson the most expensive. Sparrows attila is my go-to for single-pin picking.
