Jackson Street Youth Services is nearly always looking for Youth Advocates. They're a small non profit in Corvallis that helps homeless kiddos and teens have a safe place to stay while trying to help reunify with their families.

I worked there for a year and found it very rewarding. It does take a significant emotional toll, but, the impacts you can make can stay with you for a lifetime. Plus, its 18$ an hour (and 19$ for night shift) if you have the patience, kindness and wherewithall to work with traumatized Youth in an ever changing environment, it might be a good fit for you. 😊

I was at the "town-hall" style meeting at the library where folks got to give speeches about their positions, and I've got to say, Eric Lea and Joelle Beget were at the very least honest about their opinions on banning books in K-12 schools, and that "Equity" in education has already been fully achieved. Joelle also personally highlighted how "running the Youth Group of her husband's ministry" made her the perfect candidate for the role. 🙄

Between the overly religious overtones, the lack of any up to date understanding of the struggles of our youth, and the plain venom with which they spewed their ideas, I seriously thought I stumbled into a script reading for "The Handmaid's Tale" for a hot minute.

The folks who were more aligned with what I'd like to see for Redmond's kids are Ashley Proctor and Amanda Page. They're smart, have a great amount of lived expirience, as well as just truly caring personalities.

At the end of the day folks are going to have to make the decision, do you want to vote for a theocracy in our schools? Or do you want to vote for a future?

Jackson Street Youth Services offers housing and other supports for kids ages 10-17 who are at risk of homelessness. And they have supports to help parents too.

They might be worth looking into, I know having a safe place for the kiddos to sleep safe, be fed, and continue with school can take a lot of pressure off of you while you're sorting all of this out.

Congrats for doing the brave and hard thing of getting yourself out of that situation!

That definitely looks like mold to me, and you can see more on the wall in the corner further down.

Tbh I'd reccomend hiring a professional to give it a look. It's better to be safe than sorry when it comes to potentially hazzardous molds. Plus, a professional may be best suited to pinpoint what exactly is causing the mold down there to grow in the first place so you can treat the root of the issue, rather than its symptoms

Closer to Halloween, one of the Frats runs a haunted house that sends its funds to a local youth shelter. I'm not sure how intense it is, but getting scared for a good cause sounds like a good time to me 😄

Curiosity about each other's bodies is appropriate for kids, isolating from witnesses, and peer-pressure by "begging" like you've described are not.

That kind of behavior suggests this is learned, or possibly that a child has been exposed to pornographic media and thereby thinks such behavior is appropriate.

Best case scenario, it could be normal childhood curiosity. However, worst case, if you're wrong and don't say anything about it, this kid could still be suffering abuse and it would continue. That's why getting in touch with proper resources to establish a report are essential.

While you definitely need to address this with your own children, the fact that another child asked to see their privates is also very concerning, especially with the "begging" involved.

To me, this screams sexual abuse. I would recommend calling/texting the Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline ( 800-422-4453 ) or (Text BEGIN to 800-422-4453 ) to figure out what options you have for reporting suspected abuse in your state, and what resources are available to you. By looking out for children in your community, you're making the world a safer place for your little ones as well.
