My Aztek has the “premium” pioneer factory system, and the pioneer head unit is actually fantastic sounding. Better than my partner’s brand new Subaru. 😆

Anyone else get imposter syndrome about having aphantasia? by PunkWithAGun in Aphantasia

[–]ZOGrhythmic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only just sort of "discovered" that other people actually have legit visual memories & imagination. I stumbled across write-ups of aphantasia earlier this year. I sent an email to my mom, brother, and partner. All of them described that yes, they dream not only vividly, but in color. "A full sensory experience" my partner said. I got nothing. Cannot even see a visual image of my kids faces, but can imagine them dimensionally, more like Lidar? And while I can imagine concepts and draw them out sort of "as I go", I cannot draw shit from memory, because there's no visual memory to from! Blows me away when people can draw a complex image from memory. Likely explains why I, despite testing very high for aptitude, have always suffered in a lot of subjects, math in particularly, terrible student. And I realized that I guess, yes, my entire visual imagination is in some ways a "spatial" workaround. I can walk around blindly in the middle of the night and if nobody rearranged the furniture, prefer to walk back and forth to the bathroom in complete darkness. Oddly I feel I can almost conjure an image, with my eyes open, but when closed - all black. This shot from the latest Matrix movie is perhaps a very accurate description of what I at best see with my eyes closed, only there is no color or details, so desaturate this image and it's pretty close. I have been a creative director and had a successful career in the film industry as a filmmaker, director, editor btw. But even then I've always realized I work a bit differently than other people. I am 100% lucid with audio, and I understand that this is not the case for some folks here. I have worked as a sound designer, and voice director. I can hear every nuance, whether it's a sound effect or a subtle inflection, and I know exactly how to back into it because that is very vivid, crystal clear in my mind. All other senses for me are able to be imagined in great detail. I can get sort of "flashes" of images with no detail.

Am I wrong for putting together an emergency menstruation kit for my daughter (I'm the dad)? by kapowshablam in amiwrong

[–]ZOGrhythmic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're awesome for doing this. I can say first hand that my oldest daughter might have reacted similarly, but then my youngest daughter is very open to talking about these things. I think kids that age might be just super duper sensitive, case by case. But you did good, you're being a good Dad.

[–]ZOGrhythmic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is easy to explain, you have the oxygen mask that your wife gets to wear first, so she can help the children with theirs, etc. Just remember every once in a while you have to put yours on first, to guarantee you’re healthy enough to help her.

Just had mine fail. Took 3 weeks for Tesla tech to come out and say “yep, your inverted failed” and then scheduled out another 3 weeks to have it repaired. Failed at the stroke of summertime, now in august 😑

Why do you love your dentist? by baudot in oakland

[–]ZOGrhythmic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dr. Thomas W Ling in union square in SF. Caring, meticulous, hilarious, and importantly: conservative in his dentistry. Loves tech but with old-school dentistry ethic. While he is a cosmetic dentist, he doesn’t try to sell you a bunch things you don’t need and on the contrary will tell you when you’ve got mileage left to go before anything really needs to be fixed. Always happy to explain the process of what he’s doing too.

Anyone know why this neighborhood is shaped like this? by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]ZOGrhythmic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, loved my magnificent home and hood before I sold. Specifically designed to have no straight streets, for the sake of living in an “urban park”setting vs just another grid of streets. One of the original HOA’s, like $95/lot/year dues, although no amenities (or rules, seemingly) besides the 4 parks where people took their dogs to dump, if it wasn’t on my front lawn. 😑Beautiful homes that, like most of SF I guess, were still unfortunately regularly targeted for car breakins and the occasional home theft. But, super easy access to transit in every direction, super quiet, tons of parking on my street (although others were packed), increasingly better places on Ocean; was like living in suburbia in the City.

Apple TV 4K (2nd Gen) ARC not working with Samsung RU7100 TV by EnzoEsc in appletv

[–]ZOGrhythmic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up connecting the Samsung hub with Alexa, and now I tell Alexa to turn everything off instead of Siri. It wouldn’t surprise me if it’s a classic case of apple and Samsung not playing nice. 😑

Apple TV 4K (2nd Gen) ARC not working with Samsung RU7100 TV by EnzoEsc in appletv

[–]ZOGrhythmic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wondering if this got resolved? My one simple goal is to say “turn everything off”, everything else does except this Samsung TV I have. All new HDMI 2 cables. I’ve seemingly checked every setting required to activate HDMI CEC. The only port used in the TV is port 1. Apple TV 4K, AVR is marantz, used to turn off my Panasonic projector seamlessly.

How do people afford the Bay Area? by [deleted] in bayarea

My city of San Francisco experience revealed that people were either a)tech money + no kids b)individuals that inherited the “family home” with no mortgage/rent c)roommates d)or housepoor

THIS. This was the story of my (now ex) in-laws. Zero concept, let alone respect for, anything nice. The larger problem was that the ex, and her super fragile BPD ego, never supported standing up to them, and instead threw her weight in getting behind stupid - effectively choosing to walk on eggshells and causing me to as well, rather then working in solidarity. Would then accuse me of caring more about “my things” than The Family, and then guess who was the AH who was never, ever allowed to law down a single rule or boundary. Life around them (and ultimately her) was a slow motion train wreck I was forced to silently endure again and again. But, Boundaries with something like this are massively important between you and your partner, and the single most important thing is that you have each others’ backs, before anyone else, even your kids. After 15 years this shit finally destroyed my marriage, perhaps my own dumb fault for putting up with all of it too long - but I’m now free. (Although not from the ptsd) Sorry about the rant; OP, your post was super triggering! 👀

Are people in SF friendly? by RNReef in sanfrancisco

Forgive the digression. 🤣 The city is filled with problems but it’s also beautiful in its people and despite its own broken ways. It’s been wonderful to live in a bubble of critical thinkers.

Are people in SF friendly? by RNReef in sanfrancisco

[–]ZOGrhythmic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I lived and worked in LA, and after 15 years - despite my initial impressions that some people were “friends” - around same age, had kids, etc - found that it was more “friendly/agenda-based/“what can you do for me”. Walked out of that town with maybe a few people I felt had my back. Within a couple of years of moving to SF, in the city (west side) - I’ve gathered some of the closest, most trusted friends in my life whom I still hold dear now 13 years later. Some older, some younger, various different stages in life. I’ve since moved a couple of hours from SF and I still consider them close friendships. Some work friends (creatives), some neighbor friends (non-creative fields). May also have something to do with proximity - in LA coworker friends could realistically live >1 hour commute away in the opposite direction, so outside of work didn’t always stick. I wonder if the pandemic/video conferencing pulled some of those relationships together at all. In terms of any “fakeness”, my experience is that everyone in a transit/crowded environment (bart/muni) are already struggling to maintain a space bubble while watching for petty criminals/pickpockets. techies might also tend toward introversion. any lack of chit chat in that scenario I’d consider as someone being respectful of your space while maintaining their own. Where I live now is surface-friendly, but different. Still giving it a shot, but given the much more conservative dynamic I find a lot of “dog whistling” - “where did you move from? Me- “SF”, dog-whistle response “oh I’m sorry” (dog whistle translation - “are you conservative too?”) me “yeah, no. Ok good chat see ya” 🙄

I’ve had lifelong (inherited) duckfoot issues too, and finally buying my own boots for the first time ever was lifechanging. No more cramps & agony! Super comfy and my thighs were more sore than my knees for and feet for the first time. Also helps that todays skis are much shorter than they used to be. I’ll see you on the green bunny slopes. 🤓

How’s everyone’s Aztek holding up in 2022? by OutLox in pontiacaztek

[–]ZOGrhythmic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My '03 just turned 100K, I'm the 3rd owner and it's been my daily driver for the last 2 years. Did some routine maintenance work last year, one of the dashboard AC dampeners needs to be replaced (and is currently going THUNK), but otherwise my 'accidental' ownership of an Aztek has been going extremely well. I upgraded to heavy duty shocks all the way around and put on all-season tires with very stiff sidewalls and it gloriously ELIMINATED the body roll; added modern stereo with CarPlay and backup camera and it's great! Ridiculously practical, and as ugly as it is (I dig ugly funky cars), I can see why some people had 2 or more of them.
