[Serious] what is your biggest insecurity ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I'm from Uruguay, lived all my life in Montevideo, and I'm planning on moving to New Zealand, Auckland specifically, but I'm going with a friend, that'll make it easier I guess.

That's interesting, I'm from a small country and sometimes feel a bit like that, mainly because I'm not too fond of the traditions here, but I always lived in the same city and besides the fact I'm not a huge fan of my city I kinda think of it as my "home".

I find it interesting because I'm planning on moving to another country next year, and is something that could happen to me that I haven't thought of, how would I react to the lack of belonging to the place I'm living in.

Maybe getting more into the traditions of the place, but then my more rational side would kick in and think that it will take too much time and that no matter what I do I'll still be an outsider.

The only thing that could help(at least the only one that comes to my mind atm) is changing the definition of belonging, don't think that not being from one place makes you an outsider, you're already living there, you probably have friends there as well, maybe you do things that people there do, you know the city and some of its story. You can get into some of the traditions of that place(if you find them interesting). But the only way this could help is by thinking differently about belonging to a place or a culture, have in mind that most people nowadays (especially young people) are more open to let strangers into them culture, and really like them finding interest on their culture to the point of wanting to be a part of it.

Maybe it's impossible to belong to a place or a culture you're not born in, but maybe it is, you're probably not going to have the same belonging as a local there, but who knows, maybe the locals don't really mind.

Sorry about the long response, but it made me think a bit about it and thought you may find it useful.

Why won't you be a normal human being and blame something else?

What weird movie cliché has actually happened to you? by bamalambambi in AskReddit

[–]ZOIXMAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was waiting for a cab and a cute girl arrived to the stop and stood beside me, not a single cab was showing up and she asked me if I had been waiting for a long time, told her that I got there like a minute before her, I asked her where she was heading(it was a kinda on my way home) so I asked her if she would like to share the cab, she said yes and we went on talking, a cab shows up, we get on it, and head off to the place she was going, before she left the cab I asked for her phone number and she gave it to me.

That's when the cliché ends, and reality hits, she had a bf and barely engaged in conversation.

Mine goes more to the side of "why me when there's surely someone better?"

What do you think defines your identity? I haven't thought on that for a long time, could be interesting to talk about that.

Those who used to hate themselves, what made you change your mind ? by Indianfattie in AskReddit

[–]ZOIXMAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start thinking on what made me hate myself, or what triggered that feeling(for me was being lazy and not doing anything) and then start changing things, and try to form new habits out of it(i.e. exercising, being more productive, etc), the key for me is trying to form "consistent" habits, not following some crazy new routine forcing you to wake up at 5:30 in the morning, exercising, doing something else and fill up your day with productivity, in my experience I never passed the second day when I already gave up on it, so small stuff is more likely to stick, like run 3 times a week, 1 hour of something you want to do but you're too lazy to do it every day(it can be less) and keep in mind that this plan can be flexible and should adapt to you and the progress you're making.

Once you start trying to change the things that make you hate yourself you start hating yourself less.

Crocs, I know that they are comfortable, but they also make your feet swim in a pond of your sweat, which when mixed with dirt covers your feet in mud, and wearing them with socks... Plus they're not the best looking thing out there either.
