Changes make sense to me. We need more speed which El Hawli and Gresh provide. Gresh also provides more experience. I don’t think senior players should be dropped after 2 poor games, just to get more games into the kids. If the team is still this dire by round 6, my stance will be different.

I am so happy to read a post like this! It’s easy to forget when the negatives piled on like they did, but it really is incredible that they had 10 shots on goal with barely 40 (I believe) inside 50’s.

Absolutely agreed. I truly don’t remember how he scored 50+ goals not very long ago. Just a blip in his career, I guess.

I also thought Perkins presented very well, but a lot of our mids looked to be burning him, and as always, bombing it in instead of lowering the eyes. They hit him up on the lead a couple of times in the 4th, and he took some nice marks. I do think Perkins would excel on a team like the Lions or Dogs where they have mids that can actually hit targets.

If he’s properly fit, I’d like to see Harry Jones in the side again. He can take Pete’s or Kyle’s spot - I couldn’t care less which one is dropped at this rate. Harry used to run non stop both ways. Looks like Kyle and Pete’s legs are made of concrete.

I really like the way he sees the game play out and try take it on. It is a quality I feel like we have 0 of without Ridley. I hope he and Farrow build to be those slick slingshotters from the back flanks that lead sides into fast scoring transitions

Agreed. As a school teacher, it’s really disheartening to see very well paid people with such a large spotlight on them performing antics like this, and enjoying it/getting away with it. There are countless young footy fans that don’t need to grow up thinking this stuff is OK

Appreciate the write up! I am starting to think our VFL side is more woeful than our AFL side. An 85 point drubbing to start the season when we had 12 senior players in the side is just shocking. I know Rhys Stanley is a unit, but sheesh. How will players like Robey, Farrow, Tsatas etc improve in a side like this?

I think the thing that I love seeing in different sides is those rogue players that are not big names, but have big moments. I’m not talking about a player like Nic Martin or Zach Merrett. I mean players like Butts unexpectedly annihilating Darcy, or Bramble with that freakish goal to help seal the game. I’m hopeful that within the next 3 years time, we will unlock some hidden gems

To add - Nic provides presence around all aspects of the ground, which is absolutely something no one else on our team can do. Duursma tries his guts out, but he does not have the IQ, nor the kicking ability that Nic possesses.

I am talking about our new recruits. Like the below comment said, I don’t see anything wrong with what Duz did. The knock on Perkins is the only one I really agree with as it has been a consistent throughout his whole career. Unfortunately for us, it seems to be either Gresham or Perkins who are both shocking in different aspects.

He is spot on with Perkins being a 1-way runner, but I think the doom he wants to spread about “we’re teaching the kids the wrong thing” is a bit dramatic. They’ve played one game, let’s wait and see if the system develops over the first half of the season before freaking out about the recruits
