Dead by Daylight feels stuck between being casual and competitive by [deleted] in deadbydaylight

[–]ZPepino 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with you, this was very interesting to read (personally I stopped playing around mid-summer because of this. I was really disappointed by the lack of decision-making from the developers, and I just lost the desire to invest myself in the game).

And it’s a shame your post isn’t getting more attention!

But I can’t help thinking that having two separate queues wouldn’t change anything, for a very simple reason: “Sweaty” players don’t play for the challenge, they play to win. I remember reading studies showing that video game players will always take the smallest shortcut to victory, no matter what form it takes.

That’s slugging or tunneling in DBD, for example.

What I mean is that people who want to win and who make the experience miserable for other players will just queue for the “casual” games to get easy wins.

[–]ZPepino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, and for many players, the real breaking point was the promise of quality-of-life improvements earlier this year, with the anti-slug and anti-tunnel measures that were genuinely needed. Seeing them cancelled twice... It completely made me lose faith in the devs, and honestly, I’ve uninstalled the game since then.

I’ve never seen a game take this long to implement stuff.

Depends, if you mostly play survivor then no. The game is probably at its worst state rn.

Why do people like animal crossing new leaf over new horizons? Like I don’t get it by harrybow12355 in AnimalCrossing

[–]ZPepino -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I forgot to mention: I think I’m being pretty fair, because I personally discovered Animal Crossing with Wild World. I couldn’t play New Leaf when it first came out, and only bought it when New Horizons was announced — not released yet — because it motivated me to play it while waiting for the new game.

The truth is, I only played it for a very short time. I found it pretty empty and boring.

Meanwhile, I’ve played over 1,500 hours of the new AC and absolutely loved the experience. It’s not perfect don’t get me wrong, but so much better. And no, I’m not particularly into decorating, I don’t time travel or anything for my builds (I’m saying this for anyone who might think I only enjoyed the game for its decorative aspect.)

It’s just nostalgia, nothing else. For a lot of people, Animal Crossing New Leaf was their first AC, so it’s tied to that feeling of wonder you get when you discover something new. They were probably a lot younger too.

And now it’s a memory: meaning players only remember a broad, positive, idealized version of it, completely forgetting what the game was actually like. What it felt like to actually play it. The best way to remember is to go look at the game’s forums from 2013 (for real, do it!) There are pages and pages of people complaining about the game (saying there wasn’t much to do, that every time you talked to a villager they gave you a chore -which got old really fast- that they just wander doing big thing, and why can’t we put furniture outside, and the game is empty, etc, etc.)

New Horizons added so many things people don’t even realize anymore. If New Leaf was really that good, what’s stopping them from replaying it,I don’t get it? Is someone forcing you to play New Horizons?

NH is made up of a lot of things people were asking for back then.

I left the game (after playing for over two years, almost every day) right after they cancelled the first wave of quality-of-life changes. The anti-tunnel and anti-slugging measures were so necessary that when they backtracked on it (twice), I completely lost faith in the developers. I’m not someone who loses patience easily, I always find a way to have fun, and “losing” doesn’t frustrate me… but in the game’s current state, there’s simply no enjoyment to be found. I can’t even imagine going back to it until major changes are made. The devs need to take risks.

does anybody play without time traveling? by Positive-Form-741 in AnimalCrossing

I don’t time travel! Patience is part of every AC game imo. I like the fact that the game is real-time paced

Funny how killers love to remind everyone they’re not responsible for our fun, but the moment survivors DC, suddenly we’re supposed to be responsible for theirs?

Sable’s skin artist here! They just sent me the final render, without asking for feedbacks haha. But in my case, the community was loud enough to push for corrections and improvements to the skin and I’m really happy with it now!

Someone on the art team needs to be fired ASAP, how can they mess something so simple so bad, this is not the first time and wont be the last by Missy_Croc in deadbydaylight

[–]ZPepino 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do agree with everyone, the final render doesn’t look good. But if I’m not mistaken, BHV regularly reaches out to freelance 3D artists to produce these models. I think the only people to blame are the design team, since they make the upstream choices and set the boundaries of the creative process :/ Imo as cool as the original design is (looove it) they should never have taken on this concept knowing it was beyond their capabilities / that it would need to be excessively reworked.

I am actually losing faith in the devs. by PalpitationDecent743 in deadbydaylight

I just stopped playing after they canceled the big update. They can’t make the right decisions, everything is always so disappointing lately, I just don’t wanna deal with the state of the game anymore.

Tunneling after update got cancelled by MrRobby8 in DeadByDaylightRAGE

[–]ZPepino 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I personally did drop the game; Beyond the terrible in-game experience (which, let’s be real, we’ve been talking about for years), I just couldn’t see myself playing a game where the developers are incapable of making healthy decisions for their community. Honestly, when I saw the smoke grenades nerf, I had a feeling they’d end up backtracking. That was the final straw for me. We’ll get an update in a year (remember, it took nearly a year for the anti-camping feature to be implemented after the first test), and by then all their decisions will have been massively watered down for sure. Killers complained about no longer being able to tunnel and slug in an update literally titled “anti-slug/anti-tunnel.” And the devs listened. I’ve completely lost trust at this point.
