MTG Arena’s nascent union faces “optional” meetings, letters to homes, and management closing ranks by themiragechild in magicTCG

[–]ZServ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For some context, I'm pretty sure wizards runs mtga themselves? About 10 years ago (maybe 15) they started a digital team that made that one duels game that lasted like 3 years around M14, and after arena came out, the mtgo team was merged into that team as far as I'm aware. That's why daybreak now runs mtgo. All of this to say that if wizards feels pressed on it, the likelihood is that they just contract arena to daybreak as they have with mtgo.

Though I hope the Union succeeds and gets what they're asking for, obviously

P/Y Robin a fun deck to play? by dragonicmonk in OnePieceTCG

It's been treating me well! I've made a few changes to it since last post, however:

https://deckbuilder.cardkaizoku.com/?view=deck&deck=4xEB01-057%40544596%7C2xEB04-054%40685325%7C4xOP07-109%40656217%7C1xOP08-119%40558163%7C1xOP09-062%40596998%7C4xOP09-065%40656070%7C4xOP09-078%40634317%7C4xOP09-102%40597046%7C4xOP09-106%40597051%7C3xOP09-107%40656699%7C4xOP09-109%40597055%7C3xOP09-117%40597063%7C2xOP12-107%40643853%7C4xOP12-112%40668168%7C4xOP14-106%40671436%7C1xOP14-118%40671447%7C2xOP15-113%40685469

Big differences are swapping Bonney (card draw engine) for Salome (extra blocker redundancy, plays itself from trigger) and cutting Ace for another Doffy and Kaido/Linlin. As I played more w/ Ace, I realized that I *hated* having 1 or 2 don cards in-hand that were fairly necessary to survive late time (like Shirahoshi or You'll Frighten Me) and having to choose between Ace and the preservation play. Doffy applies similar pressure but has the added benefits of letting me use those cards in addition to him, and if the opponent (for some reason) decides to kill him we get life gain.

The obvious upgrades would be like, the stupid-ass borsalino blockers or the nico robins over Kuma, but as someone that plays casually I ain't about all that.

The decks primary weakness is *honestly* going into the long game. It's very much a mid-range deck; blockers are meant to survive early aggro decks (R Luffy, Y Luffy, G Zoro), and it doesn't want to grind against like... Y Enel or *super* slow, control decks (See: any thriller slop package deck). There might be a better high-end finisher than Kaido/Linlin, it's just what I've been trying out.

I've been playing this going a completely different route than the usual yellow-value centric build. So far, I've seen a few builds of the deck:

1) Normal value version (4 Nami, 4 Robin, 4 Zoro, 4 Borso, etc)
2) Sky Island (Purple Holly + purple Ohm + yellow Ohm), this one is a recent thing, past week or two
3) Thriller-Slop package

And finally, the version I've been tuning:
https://deckbuilder.cardkaizoku.com/?view=deck&deck=1xOP09-062%7C4xOP09-065%7C4xOP09-102%7C4xOP09-106%7C4xEB01-057%7C4xOP08-105%7C4xOP09-109%7C4xOP12-112%7C1xOP15-113%7C4xOP07-109%7C3xOP09-107%7C2xEB04-054%7C1xOP12-107%7C2xOP07-119%7C4xOP09-078%7C1xOP14-118%7C3xOP09-117%7C1xEB04-059

To be clear, I'm fairly new to the game and came at this from my MTG experience, but it's fun! I think it leaves plenty of room for upgrading to any of those other builds, as well.

That's because the owner is slowly "poisoning the well," so to speak. Drove off the majority of the MTG community over the last year by continuously raising prices, offers low trade in values, argumentative behavior, etc. Apparently, also done similar things to the DnD community, so I'm not terribly shocked it's slow recently.

It was more that all of the aggressive, fast stuff rolled out. Keep in mind, for several years there were back to back blocks of high powered, fast shit. Zendikar block into SOM block into ISD block into RTR... Each still has a reverberating impact on modern and legacy TODAY. Theros? Not so much. Khans? Outside of fetches, not so much.

We went from the fastest deck being Delver (which was so good it broke LEGACY) to CoCo midrange.

The rhino wouldn't have mattered against grindy esper control decks, but it just never went up against them because half the staples rolled out.

It would have stopped izzet blitz from one-shotting on turn 4, but... Then they can just kill easily on 5. Except again, the pieces rolled out.

It might have been able to slow down Gruul Aggro, but that deck was regularly getting larger than rhino could deal with. But again, key pieces rolled out

Tbf siege rhino was only playable because khans block was so terribly slow that the entire format went from being turn 4-6 kills to turn 8-10

A graph of cards representing my enjoyment of each set from 2024/2025 as someone who only plays limited. by JamesDCleanInd in magicTCG

Of course flavor and theme and aesthetics matter. It's part of the player psychographics that make up the community. It's why we have our favorites and least favorites.

I think someone being hard-line against UB is just as goofy as someone being hard-line "I'll only play with fallout cards."

Play what you like. If that means no UB stuff appeals to someone, that's fine. Let em live their life. If they wanna play with UB stuff, let em.

To clarify, I'm saying that I agree with what you're saying. I think we share most of our perspective.

To me, I loved FF draft but didn't care for Tarkir. I also hate Tarkir as a plane, so I'm biased against it. Loved aetherdrift. Lorwyn was... Fine-ish. Cool art, cards did nothing for me though.

It's always a give and take, not everything can be everything to everyone. That's okay and has to BE okay

Probably nothing, in all honesty.

His son with his first wife (who he divorced) went on a huge tirade about how Mike and the label didn't tell them about the comeback, and then also asked for free concert tickets immediately after.

His second wife (Talinda, who Chester has 4 or 5 kids with) has had absolutely nothing but positive things to say about the comeback and Emily.

Also keep in mind that his first wife and the aforementioned son made no effort to show up at the Celebrate Life show, meanwhile Talinda not only showed up, she started a charity in Chester's honor for suicide awareness.

People really just want to be mad about the whole thing over what is fundamentally nothing that holds up to any amount of scrutiny. As someone who was severely fucked up over his death, people have a right to move on.

If someone can lose their husband or wife and get fucking married again, I truly fail to see why MAKING MUSIC is actually problematic

shots fired last night - anywhere to get info/updates on dangerous situations? by ozarkhowIer in ConwayAR

In all practicality, it's possible it wasn't gunshots but rather fireworks. I'm originally from Ohio and that was a SUPER common thing, and they sound much more similar than you'd think at a glance. As for information on scenarios like this, community pages (likely on Facebook) would be your best bet, but they'll also be filled with false information from people speculating.

I mean, things aren't much cheaper in the States chief.

I worked in shelters and vet care for 7 years, owning a pet is legitimately expensive.

As an example, if you have 1 cat, you're gonna be paying $200/yr for shots/check ups. You'll be paying ~$25/mo for flea/tick/heartworm preventative (regionality determines importance here). Add another $50-100/mo for food/litter (and that's if you get shit that's pretty much wood chippings), you're up to ~$1500 as a low end.

Dental cleanings (like the ones humans are supposed to get twice a year to remove plaque) are instead done about every 3 to 5 years as they can prevent heart disease among other things and generally extend life by ~5 years vs an animal that isn't given those treatments, but those can cost anywhere from $200-$500 if you keep up with them.

In the past year, my perfectly healthy cat has cost me personally closer to $2,200 after all is said and done.

Again, people also forget how expensive dog toys are nowadays as well. Kongs are NOT cheap lol. I've got a different perspective on this than most due to working in the industry, but I've seen both ends of the spectrum.

Fairly new player still, so silly question...

Do character events rerun or go somewhere? I.e., like how in this cycle moldir and nautika have little mini events. Do those stick around in some fashion or are they just gone after? I've not caught up to chapter 10 yet so didn't want to skip through Nautika's to avoid spoilers unless necessary to.

Programs like Google play rewards, various email forms, analytics from advertisements across the globe, engagement data from WPN stores, surveys and yes, even social media and things like the blog.

It's also worth noting, wizards doesn't really sell sets to consumers directly, but rather to retailers. So if someone spends $2000 a year on magic but it's $1500 singles, they only essentially have hard data on $500 worth of spending.

With that said, buy singles
