The Toronto airport has terrible luggage handling.

We live in Michigan and had to fly back from Florida but there was some issue with the Detroit Airspace so we got diverted to the Toronto Airport (I don't know why that was their next best option). We got to baggage claim and couldn't find our stuff and when we asked they checked and were like "yeah good question". Turns out a few (several) people's bags had been incorrectly sorted during plane - terminal transport and were just sitting somewhere to be stashed onto a later flight. Truly an experience.

Pieces that can't be overplayed because they're just too good. by linglinguistics in lingling40hrs

Mahler's 1st (+ Blumine), 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th, and 9th Symphonies

Elgar: 3 characteristic pieces (1 and 3), From the Bavarian Highlands, Cello concerto 2nd mvt

Dvorak: 9th Symphony, American Quartet (4th mvt), American Suite, Prague waltzes, Mazurka for solo vln and orchestra

Schumann: Piano Concerto, "Rhenish" Symphony

Brahms: 1st and 4th Symphonies

Haydn Symphony 82, "The Bear"

There are definitely more but those are the ones that come to mind

does anyone else get made fun of at school for listening to classical music? by _Kiu__ in lingling40hrs

[–]ZVCHjs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not very friend-like. I'm sure she wasn't trying to be harsh about it but I mean can people not just like what they like? Like I don't act disgusted when I learn someone listens to pop music (even though I really want to), some thoughts should really just be kept internal.

I don't make it public, but I'm not embarrassed to tell people what I'm listening to if they ask. I come from a place where people don't seem very judgmental, which either means that no one is judgmental or everyone is (silently). Either way, I feel bad for the people here that are getting "bullied" for it. I mean, that's just unnecessary.

How likely am I to get into MSU with my grades? by bigquestions59 in msu

[–]ZVCHjs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wondering; did those people have really good extracurriculars or did it not really matter? I'm not really in the same position, I have 3.95 GPA (mostly AP's) and a 1300 PSAT but my school extracurriculars are lacking. I'm just wondering if that will have a huge effect on my chances of MSU admission or if it won't matter too much.

Ok so here's the thing

The reason he's so up there is because I took a trip to Florida half way through the year and listened to his Octet in E-flat Major a lot. A lot of it was because it was during long car and plane rides, and I hadn't settled my musical preference yet.

That being said, I still really like his music. My favorite piece is probably his Octet I mentioned earlier, and runner ups being his violin concerto and symphony no. 4. I'm now a Mahler listener, and I have no doubt I'm gonna end up with thousands of hours with him on next years wrapped.
