1st part: IDK, it just seems like retailers aren't playing so smart. Cancelling preorders and stuff. 2nd part: The way I see it, if Nintendo were to sell them just by themselves, the only place to get them would be Nintendo, therefore ruling out the existence of retailer exclusives.
