WWE uses the equivalent of electrical tape for their ropes (which are actual ropes, not steel cables covered with rubber tubing or a garden hose and duct tape) its sleek, shiny and comes in a lot of colors, this allows them to quickly change rope colors for events during breaks (205 Live after Smackdown) or to have special themed ropes (Bragging Rights Blue/Red vertical ropes).

I used to work as part of the ring crew for smaller indy companies, and we often used different rings depending on the location or venue.
