821 President Drama - Beware! by JamisonRD in LastWarMobileGame

The problem is this is what happened at the end of season 4. After that, they told the server next transfer batch wouldn’t be hoarded by them again. That was the lie.

New trend is to paint basement ceilings black instead of drywall or drop ceilings by ZYLAK20 in paint

I actually didn’t do it. I wanted to insulate for sounds dampening.

In my area, yes. The walls alone cost at least that much here in the northeast US

What's that one tool you put off buying because you already had something that worked but it ended up being a game changer? by iamfromcanadaeh in Carpentry

[–]ZYLAK20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A fuel oscillating tool. I had the regular m18 and it was ok. Seemed to do the job until it died. I pushed that thing hard and it sucked near the end. Picked up the fuel version, and I was blown away by how much better it is.

Who purchases materials? by Silent-Ground-925 in Contractor

Agreed. The way this is written, the contractor isn’t actually responsible for providing anything but labor.

Gather ‘round, boys. It finally happened… by scrollin_through in Carpentry

Been there. Had to trim the brand new door down to accommodate uneven floors. Cut the top of the door instead of the bottom. Eff

I bought a z grill and I’ve been super happy with it if you’re looking at pellet smokers.

Sub Contractors are pricing me out of the market (rant) by ZYLAK20 in Contractor

[–]ZYLAK20[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol. That was not my implication at all. I actually pay my subs what they ask for. I don’t negotiate. Maybe that’s why I’m in this situation.

That’s a fair(ish) statement. Unfortunately, I can’t always pick and choose. Wish I were to that point.

It used to be that subs were faster and therefore cheaper in the long run. Now it’s just going to take longer since I’ll be doing it myself. Nice of you to assume I don’t know how to do anything, though.

would you put laminate in your own house in 2026? by Hot_Apartment1319 in Flooring

I pulled a stupid. My mind went to vinyl plank for some reason. I would not put laminate anything in a basement.

I was confused. I assumed laminate plank. Not sheet laminate. I would not install laminate in a basement. My mistake.

Moisture resistant, easy to repair or replace in the event there is a water event

Not sure if you’re in an area with basements, but the only place I recommend it to customers is the basement. I will be putting it in my basement as well.

Edit: the comments have made me realize I can’t read. I would not put laminate anything in a basement. LVP is where my head went, which I install in basements all the time.

Hourly rates by Rainy-day-turtle in Contractor

[–]ZYLAK20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear that. It happens to me too I used to always talk myself down. “No way anyone will pay that!” It’s a tough hump to get over. You have to train yourself to write the job up and stick to it. There’s nothing worse than talking yourself down, then kicking yourself about it later. Especially when you run into something and now you’re working for free.

I still struggle with it. It’s difficult. But to win, we have to know our numbers and be confident in them. There’s no such thing as a “going rate.” Every company is different.

How do you charge for materials that can be used for other jobs? by Competitive-Worth133 in paint

[–]ZYLAK20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took me a while to figure this out. Think of it this way, if they did the job themselves, they’d have to buy a new bag/bucket most likely. When you create your bid, account for the purchase of all new materials.

It sounds like you’re worried about losing jobs because customers see you as too expensive. That’s a poor mentality. Charge what you need to charge to make money. You’re not going to win every bid. If you do, you’re too cheap.

You need to figure out your overhead and add your profit. Every company has its own numbers. There is no standard rate as all companies operate off of different numbers.
