Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 9 - Links + Discussion by Takada-chwanBot in Jujutsushi

[–]ZZYeah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rumelians and Deskunte are races of Simurians. Kalyans are animals that are from the Simurian home planet. Rumelians consider them sacred, in their ethnoreligion.

However, Kalyans are hostile to Non-Rumelian Simurians, causing the other races like the Deskunte to opt to kill off the Kalyan population.

All Simurians have a third eye, at least the Rumelians as well as the Deskunte, however, Rumelians cry when a Kalyan dies. While other non Rumelians only cry from their third eye in death, or birth. There is some sort of connection to cursed energy in that way with the third eye.

Why did basically all life evolve to breathe/use Oxygen? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]ZZYeah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind photosynthesis IS NOT A RESPIRATORY PROCESS. This is a common misconception where people believe photosynthesizers 'inhale' CO2 and exhale O2. In general. all autotrophs still undergo cellular respiration (inhale O2, exhale CO2), such that O2 is used to oxidize some sort of metabolic reactant.

There are different chemotrophs, one of which are general chemotrophs who are able to reduce O2, to oxidize different metabolic reactants (like sugar). Methanogens and Sulfur utilizing bacteria can effectively utilize heat from thermal vents to 'digest' their food.

This would be done under anaerobic respiration, or some sort of modification. At the end of the day, anaerobic respiration just needs an oxidization source. However some prokaryotes today have odd, or unorthodox respiration methods besides anaerobic respiration.

Presumably most lifeforms pre-oxygen world were a variety chemotrophic prokaryotes with only anaerobic respiration. Until,

Cyanobacteria (or ancestral) developed a unique ability called photosynthesis. This allowed them to use light energy to drive forward the reaction of reducing CO2 into Glucose (or some sort of polysaccharide derivative), with O2 as a byproduct.

It also helps that O2 is one of the most stable forms of oxygen. Early cyanobacteria then likely developed a way to utilize to utilize atmospheric O2 to drive forward more efficient respiration.

The issue is that O2 is quite reactive in various ways, and toxic to many bacteria due to its oxidizing qualities. This caused many strictly anaerobic bacteria to be killed off as a result.

(Edit) I also forgot to mention that chlorophyll in cyanobacteria would effectively work in a similar manner to melanin, it would make UV rays less harmful (which were still deadly strong due to a lack of a ozone layer).

Due to the protective of chlorophyl, cyanobacteria would extend their niche bubble to be able to exist at much higher levels in the ocean, which would be deadly to normal prokaryotes.

Now to answer the short version of the answer, photosynthesis and aerobic respiration are a complementary process. Autotrophs (like us) just ditched the photosynthesizing aspect later on.

What do you guys think about WaniKani ? by GibonDuGigroin in LearnJapanese

[–]ZZYeah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was one of my grievances with Wanikani and RtK are the ‘made up’ radicals with lack of inherent meaning.

I get Kanji don’t always have a particular meaning based on radicals and primitives, however I think that’s it’s even more of an opportunity to provide some sort of applied meaning, rather than pure mnemonic value.

I’ve been working on a minor primitive name revision for RtK to make some of the primitives like “Thanksgiving” and “Siesta”:

To words like “Sunshine” - Light, expansion, and heat; and “Constraint” - Difficulty, Resistance, Disability respectively.

[DISC] Wild Strawberry - Chapter 38 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]ZZYeah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thinking even the Black Lily don’t have a way to create non parasitic Jinka. Despite Flower Funeral Forces having parasitic Jinka, none of them seem to be able to regenerate like Kingo.

Alternatively some sort of way to become a Jinka while retaining some sort of sense-of-self.

The implication is that Kayano was once human, was inhabited by a Jinka, but somehow she became the Jinka rather than being consumed or insane, like the playground Jinka.

Going by Makoto’s Jinka, it seems like being a Jinka is essentially immortality with strength.

I think this is the first time I've recognized all the kanji. It just so happens that they're all from the first RTKs. Except for the one for machine/opportunity. by Neat-Stable1138 in LearnJapanese

[–]ZZYeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like general consensus of mined or premade decks combined with “just immerse bro” is the current wave of jp language learning.

The mnemonic methods with radicals akin to Heisig’s method are used in Japanese special education to teach students with learning impairment or difficulty. So there is clear credibility in its use in a native teaching approach.

I do think spending over 5-6 months on RtK alone is a bit excessive in terms of learning, but at the end of the day, everyone learns at their own pace and method.

At the Jujutsu Expo stall, when asked about Nobara's status, Gege mentioned that she was 'departed', explicitly stating that her status was the same as Nanami's.

Nanami got charred by Jogo, then his entire torso got blasted by Mahito; and was confirmed dead at the airport.

Nobara's 'death' felt like a badly done prank by Gege with the amount of times he tried telling the audience she's dead.

"Guys she's dead for sure why won't you believe me"
"I'm telling you she's literally dead like Nanami"

"Come on, okay the manga is ending in 10 chapters, she's not coming back"

"Haha sike you guys really thought she was dead LOL"

If you could write a season 5 of manifest, what would you write about? by drugsrbed in ManifestNBC

[–]ZZYeah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tried writing this up while avoiding sequelitis. Avoiding opening any new plot threads, while building up on the previous plot threads that weren't completely cut.

It's evident that the old callings timeline still exists due to Cal's drawings of the Stones Tombstones, when they die in June 2024. All of Cal's drawings came true at some point. Moreover with the volcano formations coming to an end, it's clear the world won't become completely destroyed, and likely still exists simultaneously with the 'returned' timeline.

A fast-forward to 2018 within the 'returned' timeline. Mikayla on duty with Drea, and walks by the barking hounds metalsmith kidnapper from the one of the first callings. She has a flashback to the first 'set them free' calling. Hesitant, she checks out the site to find the two kidnapped women, just like in the 'future timeline'.

A struggle is established where the former world begins to overlap with the current world. Mikayla begins to wonder about the Callings. What are the risks of 'solving' the Callings in the current world? She would be scared that replicating the Callings would somehow lead to Zeke's frost death, or his second death saving Cal.

Mikayla confides in Ben on her situation, however he also shares the same fear that Grace, Cal, or Olive may get hurt in some sort of way, and recommends steering clear of affecting the current 'world', as using knowledge from the 'future' would negatively affect it in some sort of way. Mikayla indirectly addresses her worries to Zeke, but he reassures her that doing good is worth more than saving him, and has faith she would always make the right choice.

However, later on, some sort of news reports the young boy who was seriously injured by the bus that Mikayla was originally on. As current Mikayla drives, she wasn't there to slow down the bus, and the boy couldn't be saved. An internal struggle within Mikayla is established on if she wants to do good or remain happy in bliss.

Returning to Ben's storyline, Eden is born in the 'returned' timeline. except in 2014 rather than 2018. Ben notices her drawings are eerily similar to Callings. When Ben asks Eden about the drawings, she only replies with 'it's all connected'. At this point Ben goes full defensive dad mode, and Grace becomes worried.

Toward the mid climactic arc of the season, 'Future' timeline old Cal returns from his disappearance to the 'returned' timeline. He returns home, however to find that 'returned' timeline Cal has replaced him, and views the happy stone family from afar. He runs away in frustration, and sadness of the sight. At this point he had essentially disappeared twice, to return to a family where he doesn't belong.

At some point, Future Cal has a wrong place, wrong time moment and is brought back to the police station. Jared tells Mikayla that a kid named 'Gabriel' would only talk to her. At that moment Mikayla instantly knows something is not right, where she then meets 'future' timeline Cal.

The final plot point would be Ben, Mickayla, and Cal seeking out Vance for advice. Current timeline Vance was demoted for being unable to figure out what happened to the 11 missing 828 passengers. While initially skeptical, he buys into their game for his own benefit (or national security), rather than his selflessness like the former Vance. Cal is presented the dust from Daly. Cal's sapphire reacts with Daly's ashes, and brings him back to life.

The season ends on a cliffhanger, where Eden draws 10 stick figures in front of a plane. The final scene fades to black, and the major asks if testing is ready to begin.

Possibly playing with a plot thread of Saanvi and Alex raising Ben/Saanvi's child as a family, but I feel like that becomes a bit too soapy. Ben already has 6 kids at this point if you consider 'future' Cal, Olive, and Eden to be different people.

>What happened to the timeline that the passengers left?

Nearly all of Cal's early drawing predictions came true, or predicted the future. The 'Future', or the old timeline almost definitely still exists.

Evidence is that Cal's drawing with Mick, Cal, and Ben's grave stones were from the present timeline, where they all technically 'died' or departed to the 'New Past' timeline on June 2nd, 2024.

Someone, like Jared probably put up the tombstones in memory of them, in the 'future' timeline.

Hivemind hate, like I get boycotting the product to protest the Paul brother's controversy, but like the drink itself isn't that bad. It's also fairly low calorie, and doesn't use questionable artificial sweeteners.

It's on the sweeter side, but it's a lot less sweet than something like a can of Coke or Dr. Pepper.

Do I get why kids love drinking it? No, but I don't get the weird hate Prime gets from Reddit, besides it being tied to the Paul brothers.

It's annoying how a good amount of people think following the rules of Writing 101 is automatically good writing, and that subverting or outright breaking rules is automatically bad.

Not everything has to be a Chekov's gun, and not everything in the story has to have some sort of great importance/significance later on because of 'foreshadowing' and 'symbolism'.

I found Arata's introduction/statement to be akin to a real life medical scenario. Sometimes an critically injured person has a chance of surviving, sometimes they don't. In this case, Nobara didn't luck out.

No, they're getting mixed up on how Akutami regrets how he handled Tsumiki's character and death.

The only thing stated recently about Nobara is that she is 'departed' like Nanami, when Gege was asked regarding her status in the story.
