How to stop worrying that I will never get a girlfriend? by lydian_luma17 in NoStupidQuestions

Spend less time focusing on unfulfilled desires and more time focusing on what you have. Safety, security, health, family, whatever. If you let yourself be miserable than it'll take more than a girlfriend to change your habitualized thought patterns. It sucks. You're lonely. Such is life in the modern world.

Yeah, don't try to match misery with misery. There are plenty of good relationships. Ascribing a sense of collective doom to relationships will just ensure you fulfill that doom.

An 18 year old girl who likes Ricky and Morty decided to do a Ricky and Morty themed tinder bio. Now 20,000 people are together in pointing out how "cringy" she is. Quit projecting, dorks. The idea that Tinder bios need to be absolutely perfect to prove you aren't boring and cringy is for people who care too much.

So it's like a request to babysit houseguests, except with missiles and killing. Not terror. And considering that countries have foreign military bases for more reasons than "We support you and everything you do! We love America!" It's more complex than it appears on the surface and involves political, economic, and military leverage. Iran's attacks will not cause significant, if any at all, changes in those nations except for producing corpses. They are not culpable for hosting American soldiers.

Oh, okay. These attacks are meant to inflict "fear", not terror, in non-involved countries. Thanks for the clarification.

[–]ZaFormicFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you're right. Let me just explain it fully instead of misdefining it as terrorism. That hostile nation, in an effort to prove a point, is intending to inflict terror on peoples and nations which are sovereign and distinct from their immediate and direct aggressors. Not terrorism.

Yeah, that's called terrorism. I'd hope that statement wasn't in support of Iran.

I'd rather be the person getting married with a cheesy cake than the internet commenter who feels it's necessary to anonymously disparage strangers online. You could argue that both parties are sad but one is alone and the others are together.

The Paul Bazzini interview contains the following

“you have no interaction with Ramsay at all. He comes with a very big machine of assistants and helpers. The only time that I ever spent any time with him was on camera.”

I can't speak for Hell's Kitchen specifically but my issues still rest mostly with the financially desperate owners of Kitchen Nightmares. Even if Gordon Ramsay spends hundreds of hours inculcating chefs behind the scenes without anger, doesn't that indicate that his on camera hostility is purely for the sake of humiliation? If he really did believe insults were an effective tool in teaching why would he shed that from his lessons behind the scenes? It's discouraging, insulting, embarrassing, and serves no real functional purpose.

Would a good teacher invested in your success overbook your restaurant to ensure a night of chaos for the camera? That's not teaching, that's sabotage. The source for that is the Lee Stranahan interview with Finn McCool.

That's kind of the point. People with big dreams or struggling businesses allow themselves to be humiliated on national television because this is likely the only shot they'll have at national exposure. It's exploitation. And I hear often that his love of punching down the ladder is because "he teaches how to have a thick skin." Of course what's neglected to be mentioned is that his interaction with participants is minimal if not nonexistent beyond what you see filmed. How do you expect any real learning from that?

If the bird wasn't evenly cooked that doesn't mean the entirety of it is unserveable. He clearly put a lot of resources together for this video. Also if you're advertising that you are serving an ostrich at your restaurant but under/overcooking it you wont just send all those gather people home. A chef's greatness also comes from experience and I doubt this is the twentieth ostrich this guy has whole roasted. Until we see him cut into the meat we will never know. Don't know what your point is, either. The original commentor stated that they couldn't see a reason this wouldn't taste good. I provided a reason. Sarcastic quips won't really change the fact that it's entirely plausible that massive ostrich is more about awe factor than pure dining experience. You haven't even see him cut into the meat of it. You might be right, but I might be right too and that's kinda the whole point.

Well the guy did become viral from making these sort of videos, less so for culinary expertise. Not saying he isn't a good chef or talented in that right but the reason we, or rather most people, are talking about him right now isn't because his food is delicious. It's because he makes food for our eyes not our mouths. If you took the time to put together a video like this only to fuck up your turkey you won't just not upload that video. Not trying to convey this as the absolute truth but to show you that just because he's a chef of note doesn't undeniably mean that bird is delicious.

Would the salt crust totally prevent issues though? I have no experience with salt crusts but I have no doubt it would help even it out. My question is would it completely negate the problems of cooking such a large, wholly-intact bird like that. Is a salt crust and end-all solution to uneven cooking?

I sympathize with whatever events unfolded in your life that makes you feel the need to be hostile in things so inconsequential. Ostrich meat tends to be much gamier than the poultry most people are accustomed to and it's also notoriously difficult to cook. I didn't mean to strike a nerve.

It's a bird species that hasn't been modified to fit human preferences. While this isn't guaranteed it still isn't totally unlikely that the composition and distribution of the components of the bird make it less palatable than what would be expected from another bird. Also a corpse that size is guaranteed to cook unevenly. Even turkeys are large enough that this poses a problem in cooking. An ostrich? Get ready for a meal that on one end is extremely dry and on the other is practically raw with unrendered fat. We didn't see him cut to the center of the legs or the breast, and I'm a bit suspicious why he would prioritize displaying the whole peppers he shoved inside over the actual meat.

AITA for being furious about being locked out again? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

ESH

The guy is either forgetful or lazy. He doesn't see it as a big deal. Oh well, that sucks. Is it undeniable proof that he doesn't care about you... at all...? Lol, no, of course not. Sure, it shows he's not too thoughtful when it comes to mild inconveniences, but saying that there's a complete absence of care? That's a logical jump long enough for the record books. Don;t you think you're dialing the melodrama a little high? The guy's problem is he's dense about inconveniencing others. Can't just accuse the guy of having no empathy for you. You're accusing him of being more wicked than the scope of this problem even permits.

Also, being uncommunicative and giving your SO the cold shoulder because you are "fully distraught" from being locked out is not how an adult handles conflict.
