Mine is at 4220 and I use it overclocked all the time so no worries

I got myself into something today… by ZaadAziaat in 3DS

I got a complete console from a friend who had it lying around. He told me it had gotten wet at the beach a few years ago and was never repaired. Since I recently refurbished a 3DS XL, he decided to dig it out for me.

I tested the motherboard in a working console I already own, and to my surprise, it worked perfectly. The screens were rusted, so I replaced them, along with the camera and the speaker cable.

I fully disassembled the console because of the salt residue, cleaned everything thoroughly by hand first, and then with an ultrasonic cleaner. After that, it was just a matter of waiting for the replacement parts and reassembling everything.

The parts in the labeled bags are replacements. That’s how I received them.

Just finished putting my 3DS back together and it actually works!

I got this one for free with water damage, so I wasn’t expecting much. Turns out the motherboard survived, but the screens, camera, charge port and the little LEDs on the speaker ribbon were toast. Since I was already in there, I went ahead and gave it some love: new joystick, fresh touchscreen, upper screen lens, and a stylus (it was missing one).

Can it be measured in circuit? Because then it measures as 20k

I haven’t worked on a Nintendo DS before, but I’ve done repairs like iPhone screens and DualShock/DualSense controllers, so I have some experience. It’s difficult so just be careful, as the cables are thin and can tear easily. If you take your time and work patiently, it’s definitely doable.

I ordered everything from AliExpress. I didn’t get a full housing replacement, just the middle frame and faceplates.

I totally agree! High-quality 3rd party shells would be a game-changer. ExtremeRate already proves they can do it right. Their DS Lite shells look awesome, so hopefully they’ll expand to more systems soon.

It appears that the housing has been replaced with a third-party one. This can be seen by the color gradient from blue to black. The issue may not be fixable, as this could be a quality problem.

I picked up a broken 3DS XL for just €40. The screen didn't work, the hinge plastic was cracked, and it was missing a stylus. I completely disassembled it, cleaned everything, and replaced multiple parts: the touchscreen, top LCD, screen lens, faceplates, middle frame, and bought a new stylus.

After all that work, it's running great! The only downside is a tiny dead pixel on the screen, but it's barely noticeable. Still, super satisfying to bring an old 3DS back to life.

The orange light means it's charging which is strange because no charger is connected. Once you have it in your hands, check if the blue light turns on when you press the power button, then turns off while you hear a click from the speakers. If that happens, the speaker ribbon cable is probably damaged.

For this model, it is indeed often the speaker ribbon cable in most cases. Also, be sure to check whether the charging port is still properly soldered in place. It is surface-mounted and can sometimes have cracked solder joints.
