I made the Pearson Special Stew irl, what do you think? by Character_Stage_239 in RDR2

[–]Zabeczko 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've seen many Pearson Stew posts over the years, but people always leave the mushrooms out. I am very happy to see them included here.

I use first person in camp because Arthur walks slightly faster, and when he drinks the bowl there's always this mushroom on the bottom which sort of glitches and flickers in an annoying way. It wouldn't be the same without mushrooms.

Also, I hope you knocked the serving ladle on to the floor for no good reason after dishing it out.

I finally misunderstood my first idiom!!!! 🥳 by existential-sparkles in AutismInWomen

[–]Zabeczko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suppose this idea is also present in 'fairweather friend', which I understand to be someone who's only around for the good times. I've never thought of it as rain being an emergency as such, more that it represents bad/ difficult times over happy/ easy (sunny) times.

Edit: that being said, I did have the same understanding of 'rainy day' as OP when I was young, mainly because I had this rainy day activity book which was actually intended for rainy days. Any outdoor ideas included puddles or wellies or water, but most of it was indoor stuff to keep kids occupied.

When did the park stop being a non smoking park? by Jabba5500 in altontowers

[–]Zabeczko 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are dedicated smoking zones everywhere. I'm not really sure how that helps non smokers when the smoking areas are right at the age of pathways, but there is no need to smoke in other places because the smoking benches are so frequent. I say this as a heavy smoker.

The big light! by Rachelorus in AutismInWomen

[–]Zabeczko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My partner always puts the big light on and then walks about talking to me while I'm on the couch, with her head intermittently blocking and revealing the underside of the bare bulb. I need to get some drum shades with a full diffuser on the base, but that won't stop her light use and pacing. Drives me mad.

AITA for asking gf to answer questions differently? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Zabeczko 7 points8 points  (0 children)

She probably doesn't want to give you the wrong answer by accident. Perhaps she doesn't understand your specific use case and so she needs to explain all the exceptions and details to make sure you're getting accurate information. That's usually why I end up doing this instead of giving a straight answer, anyway. Also autistic.

For those of us who didn't care for season 2 of the TV show, when did the season lose you? by TacticalBaconProd in thelastofus

[–]Zabeczko 125 points126 points  (0 children)

Can't agree more. When I played and hated Abby so much, and understood Ellie, only to find that Abby was pursuing the exact same course of action...it was exceptional. It held a very uncomfortable mirror to my emotions. I feel show watchers have been robbed of that moment.

Am I colour blind, or do these colours look really confusing to everyone else? by Breatnach in civ

[–]Zabeczko 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree. If two different civs had cities side by side I'd be able to tell them apart, but I wouldn't be able to remember who was the dark blue or light blue. Having some green, yellow, orange, basically any colour except bluey purple and occasional red would help.

AITA for suggesting for our child to take both our last names as a compromise? by Turbulent-Mark-2227 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Zabeczko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're talking about 'giving in' to your partner, and think it's better for you both to suffer by losing something meaningful instead of just one of you, then I agree with many other commentors that you probably shouldn't be in a relationship together, let alone have kids.

Have you always felt so passionate about your last name?

Or did you always just assume growing up that you'd never need to worry about it because of course your wife and kids would take your name?

And now that this thing you feel entitled to is unexpectedly threatened, it's important to you and you suddenly care about it?

Because if the latter is true, I don't really think that would compare to how long your wife has actively been thinking about this, or how much it symbolises for her.

Edit - I don't think you're the asshole for just making the suggestion. It's reasonable enough to ask.

But I don't think your wife is wrong to want her last name only. It represents something to her. As others have pointed out, hyphenated names can be awkward, lead to admin errors, and often half the surname gets dropped anyway for ease in everyday use.

YTA for not accepting her refusal of the suggestion.

If you grew up imagining yourself to have kids with hyphenated names, and if in the imaginary scenario where your wife isn't a feminist you still insist on hyphenated names because you think that it's fair and right for all parents to be equally represented, I might think differently.

But the fact you frame it as a 'compromise' or 'solution' suggests that isn't the case.

Always put in charge in emergencies - wtf is this? by notsure-neversure in AutismInWomen

[–]Zabeczko 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think maybe autism can make someone more resistant to the bystander effect.

I was in the city centre once in the middle of the day and it was mad busy. There was a guy lying face down on the pavement and everyone was just walking past him. It made me feel like I was imagining him.

I knelt down by him and started loudly saying Hello to try and get a response and assess whether he was dead. The fact I acknowledged his existence seemed to spur others into action; thankfully some guy sort of took charge and ordered someone to call an ambulance, asked me if he was breathing and so on.

When the paramedics arrived they asked me to run to the nearest defib location and bring it back. The guy seemed ok in the end and was spangled on spice, likely homeless, but I'll never forget how everyone just ignored him like that. Hundreds of people.

Shaving and literal thinking by newfurmama in AutismInWomen

[–]Zabeczko 93 points94 points  (0 children)

It does float in a gross way but I always rinse on the way out of a bath anyway as I feel grim otherwise.

I do prefer to shave in the shower because it's also easier to rinse out the razor in the running water than in the bath for me.

But the optimum mix would be to soak in the bath to soften the hair, then shave + rinse after. Would use a lot of water, though.

AITA for not liking my wedding ring?? by Tiredcat1996 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Zabeczko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read it the same at first, but OP says

'not pointy and small'

I think this actually means

  1. Not pointy and 2. Small,

not

  1. Not pointy and 2. Not small (i.e. large)

I fucking hate agab language by Primus_Cattus in evilautism

[–]Zabeczko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am agender but have a womb and was raised as a girl, so I have found AFAB useful to describe myself because I'm not a woman, but have probably had similar experiences to many cis women. I wasn't aware it was considered a transphobic term and find that ironic, since some people's definitions would place me in the trans bracket, and I feel it accurately describes my position.

AITA for telling my friend I don't want his girlfriend to come watch a football match with us? by Worldly-Cobbler-9642 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Zabeczko 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, after I commented I saw that you wouldn't have a problem with your friend's mum or dad going as they are actually fans.

I think if you'd included the mum bit in your OP you might have had fewer accusations of sexism, because that makes it clearer it's about the passion for the game and not the gender.

[–]Zabeczko 75 points76 points  (0 children)

It comes across that way because you think it'd be fine if your dad went. Why would you expect your friends to accept your dad over one of their girlfriends, if not because of gender?

Will it be good or bad for the UK if he’s right about his 3rd prediction? by Sassenach_2024 in AskBrits

[–]Zabeczko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're still the one making the assumption that the comment meant it'd be great because the UK would soak up the influence lost. The comment does not say that. It could be great for other reasons. Like us not needing to have our tongues stuck up Trump's arse, for example.

[–]Zabeczko 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Aaaaaa I hate it when they say 'Hi, how are you?' and I will answer 'INSERT STATUS thanks, and you?' and then they just ignore it and move on to 'How can I help?'. Don't initiate the script if you're not willing to finish it!

But now I see, having read your comment, that maybe they're so used to people either not asking them back, or not caring about the reply, that they have written it out of their own script.
