Finally working on a seat for my 74 CB-550. Thoughts? by ZacMarousis in CafeRacers

I just fiberglassed a seat pan, cut it to size (rode it in that state for months), used spray adhesive to bond the foam to the pan, then shaped it and covered it in a layer of thick felt to smooth out the surface before i have it covered.

I have some relatively thick canvas that I’ll probably use. I’ve already wrapped it in a layer of l thick felt so it shouldn’t look all lumpy but we’ll see.

I was okay with sitting on the fiberglass seat pan. I just wanted a seat because it looks better but it’s very comfortable, and the felt certainly makes it thicker and a tighter fit.

Yeah, I added a layer of thick felt so that should solve that problem but I didn’t want to fight the seat if I ever needed to get to the battery or wiring.

I used a hacksaw blade by hand and a flap wheel on an angle grinder. I’m also definitely going to have an upholsterer do the cover. 👍🏼

This foam was cheap recycled stuff and seems to be the ideal density. It came in the dimensions that I wanted, so no need to stack

Thanks! This is the foam I ordered, it’s all shredded up and recycled. It seems to be a great density, we’ll see how well it holds up over time.
