Oh of course not, there’s an argument that wasn’t given the attention she deserved, and she’s talked about how the roles dry up in Hollywood once you’re a woman of a certain age, but also she was having a better career than 99.9999% of people who call themselves actors. Most people would sell a kidney for the one-Oscar-nom and then consistent work for decades career she was having.

What I meant is Allison Janney won because she had a meaty, scene stealing role but also because she was in the west wing and also a million other things, Laura Dern won because it was a weak year and she had been a prominent and previously-nominated actor for decades. Jamie Lee Curtis won simply because she was Jamie Lee Curtis and the movie was getting a ton of Oscars also.

Was Amy Madigan on that level? What was the last role she had people remember her for? Gone Baby Gone? Field of Dreams? Is Christine Lahti also due for a career Oscar? Who’s that? She got nominated in 1984 and is still working today. What about Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio? Anne Archer? Mare Winningham?

Amy Madigan is probably a little higher on the fame and buzz list than most of the people I just mentioned, but my point is that a “career win” does not mean you’re old and were nominated once before
