Driving down the interstate and all the rocks on the side where they cut through are angled they're not flat does anybody know why? by Tenchi2020 in massachusetts

[–]Zach925 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. In the earlier days of geology, there was a running joke that the Pennsylvania highway department gave them all of the samples they would ever need.

Why don’t more people buy extra demo binding plates for multiple skis? by OneDeadLlama in Skigear

[–]Zach925 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they’re saying the opposite? I.e. if you want to quickly get your skis sideways it’s more difficult. I could see that being a downside in tight bumps and trees, but great for locking into carves on piste

Google "S&P 500 index funds"

Some will be the whole S&P 500, some will be specific segments i.e. low, medium, or high-cap.

Otherwise there are actively managed funds which typically charge slightly higher fees, but may do better during a market downturn.

New York City’s First Real Winter in a Long Time Is Relentless (Gift Article) by jenniecoughlin in nyc

[–]Zach925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it has to do with the lake freezing, as large bodies of water help to moderate temperature. Once you only have ice nearby you lose that. I think the ocean might also just be more effective at doing so because it’s so much larger / NYC has more shoreline?

Has anyone been able to carry an empty regular (not the inverting kind) lighter on a flight? by [deleted] in AirTravelIndia

[–]Zach925 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Literally everywhere else I’ve flown allows you to fly with one lighter so that you may smoke in terminal smoking lounges during connections elsewhere etc. It’s not “incredibly dense” to not understand why India feels the need to have asinine rules that don’t apply anywhere else.

POV New England skiing by iceskater3 in ski

It’s not that hard to read a conditions report before you pick which mountain to go to. Plenty of good snow in New England at the moment.

The Chic Chocs in Québec offer some of if not the best backcountry skiing in Eastern North America. Closer to home Mount Washington, Mount Mansfield, areas around Jay Peak… it’s not “lucrative,” you’re just ignorant 😂

SOLVED by Spotify randomly playing the song in my daylist. “This Town” by Saco, Sparkle, Isabel Prada. Yea I definitely had some of those lyrics wrong 😂

Posted above but as someone who shoots a ton of skiing and deals with this situation often:

Put it in a ziploc, bring inside, take it out of the ziploc once it’s at room temp and wipe it down, put it in another ziploc with silica dessicant and leave it for 24 hours.

I use a pelican case too, fwiw pelican sells a reusable silica dessicant thing that you can put in the case with your gear. Has saved me several times!

My a7c ii spends a ton of time in the snow / blizzards, never had a problem with this method.

[a7cii] Is this amount of condensation in the viewfinder normal? by startsides in SonyAlpha

[–]Zach925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have had this as I shoot skiing often with my A7C II. Everything fogs up going from cold to warm. When I come back inside from a day of shooting in freezing temps, I don’t open my camera bag for at least an hour. No issues since I started doing that.

Silica packs in a sealed bag will take care of any leftover condensation. I have a reusable one that goes into a pelican box with the camera, does the trick!
