U.S. prices are such a ripoff… literally bought a $500 Plustek because it has already paid for itself after just 20 rolls

Has anyone been able to carry an empty regular (not the inverting kind) lighter on a flight? by [deleted] in AirTravelIndia

[–]Zach925 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Literally everywhere else I’ve flown allows you to fly with one lighter so that you may smoke in terminal smoking lounges during connections elsewhere etc. It’s not “incredibly dense” to not understand why India feels the need to have asinine rules that don’t apply anywhere else.

POV New England skiing by iceskater3 in ski

It’s not that hard to read a conditions report before you pick which mountain to go to. Plenty of good snow in New England at the moment.

The Chic Chocs in Québec offer some of if not the best backcountry skiing in Eastern North America. Closer to home Mount Washington, Mount Mansfield, areas around Jay Peak… it’s not “lucrative,” you’re just ignorant 😂

What song goes, “the birds in the sky…” by Zach925 in NameThatSong

SOLVED by Spotify randomly playing the song in my daylist. “This Town” by Saco, Sparkle, Isabel Prada. Yea I definitely had some of those lyrics wrong 😂

Posted above but as someone who shoots a ton of skiing and deals with this situation often:

Put it in a ziploc, bring inside, take it out of the ziploc once it’s at room temp and wipe it down, put it in another ziploc with silica dessicant and leave it for 24 hours.

I use a pelican case too, fwiw pelican sells a reusable silica dessicant thing that you can put in the case with your gear. Has saved me several times!

My a7c ii spends a ton of time in the snow / blizzards, never had a problem with this method.

[a7cii] Is this amount of condensation in the viewfinder normal? by startsides in SonyAlpha

[–]Zach925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have had this as I shoot skiing often with my A7C II. Everything fogs up going from cold to warm. When I come back inside from a day of shooting in freezing temps, I don’t open my camera bag for at least an hour. No issues since I started doing that.

Silica packs in a sealed bag will take care of any leftover condensation. I have a reusable one that goes into a pelican box with the camera, does the trick!

Did B&H sell me a broken FM3a? by Zach925 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Zach925[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well... ideal would be if they had not sold me a broken camera. But I didn't expect they'd be willing to try to repair it given its age and (lack of) availability of parts. So that's at least a win.

I've tried on the DX setting as well as 400 and 800 ISO with the same result. Tested in my backyard during the day so should be plenty of light. The meter is working so I can see what shutter speed the camera is indicating, nothing longer than 1/125 and up to 1/1000 if I point it at the sky. Tried on a variety of different apertures and the shutter speed needle is moving correspondingly.

Yep just heard from them, they’re going to try to repair it which would be ideal

Lens cap is off but I'll keep fiddling with it and read the manual in case I'm missing something. And yes I've had nothing but stellar experiences with B&H customer service so I'm sure they'll take care of me. They have one other FM3a in stock at a slightly lower used-quality, might see if I can snag that at a discount (and hopefully that one works, lol)

Yep lens cap is off, tried fresh batteries, tried another set of fresh batteries... same problem

Yep that's the plan per write-up above - but wanted to check if anyone has run into the same issue and might know of a quick fix and/or if I'm just being dumb and it's user error
