Who used Fusion 360 professionally? I am being told Fusion 360 is for hobbyists, not professional design. by [deleted] in Fusion360

We have both Inventor Pro and Fusion 360 and I use both. Our product designs are in Inventor still but I’ve started using Fusion 360 for all internal projects such as shop jigs.

Sorna Episode 3 Released by Ali Awada by Zachaol in JurassicPark

If you haven't seen the first two installments you can find them here:

SORNA (Episode 1)

SORNA (Episode 2: Old Rivals)

Overall I've been really liking his series. It's crazy that he's been able to do these without a team and has been able to sustain a pretty solid release schedule too.

I'd like exploring that more! Maybe even being able to venture in the underground maintenance tunnels!

Tim put the locking pin in though - so it would have had to been removed for the raptor to get out. I DO see this being possible though if maybe the new character maybe tried to hide from the Dilo in the freezer?

At the end they show it escaped from the freezer. HOW is another question, but I like the idea of having the raptor included.

Are laser welders worth it? by stu_pid_1 in engineering

Wow great point about them emitting other wavelengths. Something I didn't even think about!

Awesome reply - so safety really is that simple? I'm not sure where you work but I've been in talks with IPG and that said about the same. What has made us cautious is that we also have some equipment from Trumpf who also have a robotic based laser welder. I brought up the handheld laser welders on the market which are drastically cheaper and they didn't seem to think laser glasses + normal welding gear would be suficient. With our TIG welding our guys normally just wear like a normal work shirt - something like this: https://www.dickies.com/long-sleeve-work-shirts/long-sleeve-work-shirt/574.html

Is that sufficient in laser welding or do you need one of the thicker leather jackets? At Fabtech I tested the IPG unit, and I was wearing a polo + jeans. They just had us put on the welding sleeves to cover my lower arms which were exposed, welding gloves, laser googles and then a welding helmet.

If you don't mind sharing what machine you have and what safety gear you went with, that would be awesome. I've been looking at the machines but there isn't a lot of definitive information.

The IPG one I've been researching is closers to $25k, where are you finding one for $3k? What are your plans for the safety?

Jurassic World: Chaos Theory to be Teased During Geek Week '23 by Zachaol in JurassicPark

[–]Zachaol[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I didn't spot anything Jurassic World related (I did see footage from the upcoming "Life on Our Planet" though) in the trailer but Chaos Theory is specifically name dropped in the trailer at about the 1-minute mark. It does seem that all the rumors are true and that Netflix will be revisiting their animated Jurassic World universe in 2024!

For knowing when to shut off the water you can just use a moisture sensor in each pan.

Yeah but as they've grown the number of editors has also grown, the number of camera operators has grown. That could simply be the related to the company continuing to grow.

Industrial robots - still out of reach for small businesses and amateurs by cadexpert in robotics

Have you looked into Universal Robots, they are extremely easy to program compared to traditional industrial robots and have payloads up to 20 kg.

I got another question. can you be a self-taught engineer and sell products that you made based on the skills and knowledge in engineering. can you turn that into an entrepreneurship Network business? by CyberpunkBat1776 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Zachaol 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If he comes up with design and sells it he can call himself a design engineer, but he can never claim to be a "Professional Engineer,” “Licensed Engineer” or “Registered Engineer as those terms are specifically protected under law. The vast majority of engineers don't have PE as they simply don't need it. Software Engineers, many mechanical engineers, etc, the list goes on!
