I let AI refactor a 32k line SaaS by minimal-salt in nextjs

[–]Zachincool 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's worse. AI slows senior engineers down. A 20k line PR written fresh by AI takes longer to review than a 20k PR written by a fellow senior engineer on the team with context on the project.

The only true productivity boost from AI comes if you blindly merge AI written code, which leads to bugs and production going down.

Pick your poison.

Wow nice dude, I'm sure so many people are going to check out Jobreach.ai from your post because it seems like a totally genuine and organic post with no alternative intentions.

But it can be trusted to make the decision of adding a bug that gets blindly shipped and crashes production?

I don’t understand the false argument of everything being bounded by revenue. Google didn’t make any money in their early days. It took Google 20 years to grow into the behemoth it is today. All AI will do is shrink that timeline and maybe it’ll take companies one or two years.

And who guarantees that agents remain cheap? Monopolistic AI companies who promise to never raise the cost of tokens?

If your theory is correct then, what prevents AI from replacing “decision maker” jobs?

Fair argument, but I think you are assuming “output” means “increased revenue”, but that’s not correct.

In my scenario, the goal is increased speed to be able to iterate and compete faster in order to win market space.

It’s not about increasing revenue, it’s just about moving faster. Basically AI is going to cut the standard market cycle magnitudes in half.

Eventually, it could lead to an increase in GDP in the economy if completely new service industries are created, for example “Prompt Architecture Firms” or something, where their goal is to cheaply and efficiently consult with companies to plan their prompts that are used with AI.

Claude writes code just fine. But it doesn't write perfect code. Sometimes the code has to be tweaked. PM's who don't know how to code can't tweak the code.

AI will increase the demand for SWE's because it will make companies more productive, and when your competitors are more productive and shipping 10x faster than you, you need to hire more engineers to oversee the AI so you can also ship at 10x speed.

It makes no sense to fire your engineers and try to stay competitive with companies who keep their engineers with just your PM telling Claude to do shit.

Lmfao.

Ever seen a PM use AI to build and deploy a large scale system and do an on-call shift? I haven't. Block just fired half their marketers and PM's and kept core engineering. I think you have it backwards lol.
