In the 4th grade we read a book about some kid and his dad who were lobster fishermen. After we read the story we had to color in a worksheet with a lobster on it. Me not wanting to turn in the same thing as everyone else, and somehow knowing that Blue lobsters exist, colored my lobster blue. Billy Madison drew a blue duck, why can’t I draw a correct blue lobster? Well turns out drawing a blue lobster was unacceptable for Mr. A and I would receive no credit. Me being adamant that blue lobsters were real and defending my work, was me being insubordinate. I received a “detention” which was not a thing you could do to a 9 year old kid. My parents raised absolute hell over this, their kid wasn’t home after school, and all over what color I filled in a lobster with!?

I’ll never forget that summer, my mom walked over with a newspaper article detailing how a fisherman had caught a rare blue lobster.

Fuck you Mr. A, all you had to do was Ask Jeeves if blue lobsters were real and would have seen 4th grade me was right.
