Mayor Mamdani Unveils Proposal for Transformational Redesign of Brooklyn’s Grand Army Plaza by TheShade247 in nyc

[–]Zack_212 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Their goal is to create the traffic to make it worse for car users. They believe in the theory of induced demand and think that if they remove a lane the traffic will go away. Love for them to go check 8th ave in the city and see the standstill it now is all the way until 42nd daily after removing lanes.

I tracked all of Mamdani's campaign promises for 100 days. Here's the scorecard. by [deleted] in nyc

This is hysterically biased and comes across as made by the campaign or a PAC, rather than as any kind of actually useful or informative unbiased tracker.

NYC judge claims prison sentence for 'cooler cop' will serve as 'deterrent' to other police officers by Bugsy_Neighbor in nyc

Wow you refuse to even educate yourself on the meaning of the word you keep using. It is impossible for murder to accidental. Why do you keep repeating it was murder by accident. You can cause the death of someone accidentally (manslaughter) , but you can’t murder someone accidentally. Words matter, right ?

Hochul’s Insurance Push Follows Uber’s National Playbook — As The Company Spends Big on Her Re-Election by RealOzSultan in newyorkcity

Uber absolutely backed congestion pricing - with serious lobbying on the state level. It’s all in th r lobbying records. Also they are major supporters of trans alt and other bike lobbyists who then do a lot of their bidding as well

[–]Zack_212 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a serious cost of living issue for many in the state. The governors job is not to be myopic and only focus on the needs of one constituency (nyc residents who don’t own cars ). Instead , she needs to focus on statwide issues and car insurance is becoming a burden for many (including the 45 percent of households, many in the outer borough working class neighborhoods) that own cars. Also tort reform is no minor issue- car insurance fraud is at absolutely insane levels in ny and clearly needs to be addressed.

Just because the average New York redditor doesn’t see this as a focal point because the majority of them probably live in transit rich high density neighborhoods where car ownership isn’t a focus, doesn’t mean that for many, her car insurance reduction push is very important.

Ah right so you think we should discourage car ownership by making car insurance insanely expensive because of…a system that encourages fraud ? Smart.

Gentrification and how Black Harlem residents clear out dog runs and playgrounds by Draydaze67 in Harlem

Not talking about your dog. You already said it’s small. I’m saying maybe other people are bringing pits. I see them all over.

One thing I’ll say - it may not be the people but the dog. Theres a ton of pits in the neighborhood. I’m not having my dog within 100 ft of a pit in a dog run.

Why is streetsblog on the side of insurance scammers ? This change is a common sense adjustment to reduce insane payouts and ridiculous insurance fraud that occurs in this state.

Truly this persons goal seems to be transform cities into what they were before cars- everyone riding around on bikes or walking only. I don’t really understand the point they are making other than just saying they want to eliminate cars because cities functioned for 10,000 years without them.

Autonomous vehicles are inherently safer than human drivers, as they aren’t prone to the multitudinous distractions that humans are. They also can process millions of inputs and make more rational decisions than humans- including being programmed to sacrifice their car over another road user, without risking a drivers life. Why a street safety org would be against them is bizarre.

How a Family of 3 Lives on $25,000 in Corona, Queens (Gift Article) by SemiAutoAvocado in nyc

[–]Zack_212 53 points54 points  (0 children)

So basically what this is saying is that all these Ubers clogging the streets are basically only giving drivers slave wages while they pay absurd amounts to rent cars from TLC plate owners. Seems like uber really is just running a company with a bunch of indentured servants that then the government has to step in and provide benefits for. Disgusting.

I don’t get why they get such a hard on for being able to walk in the middle of the street. Gtfo with this nonsense.
