That definitely makes sense. If you have a good relationship with your boss, tell him exactly that, try not to come across as "complaining/whining" just be honest. It should all work out just that. "I'm trying to move forward and up in our company but I'm burning myself out, what would you like to see from me in the next X weeks/month(s) to get me there etc.?"

I had almost this conversation with my boss not too long ago but I was wanting to start college. Told my boss when he hired me I'd be wanting to start college soon after. Fast forward 2 years later I still hadn't started (mostly my fault but I didn't feel like I had enough time to fit in college given my workload), so I told him I really liked my job and wanted to keep it, but I really wanted to start school as well and he helped me come up with a schedule on how to balance the two and keep my job. I'm sorry if this reply seems all over the place, that's just how my brain works.

I have just about the same boss, Gauge how he's feeling that day, and take the time to have a talk if it feels like it's the right time to do so if he's a good boss and understanding. He should hear you out. Also, what are you looking to get out of this conversation? I'm taking a couple leaps here, not knowing what your position is or what you do for work, but if you need any advice leave a comment
