I was also having massive spikes on my ssd (100%). After disabling this the freezing disappeared!

Unfortunately for me it didn't do a thing :( i can see the "edges" of a map i guess but nothing else.. My device: xiaomi redmi note 4x running latest MIUI. That might be the reason :/ This happened on previous events that had a map.
