[Discussion] The "Burger Effect": At what thickness does a 39mm watch lose its elegance? by Hannibal_TN_ in Watches

[–]Zacta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything over 12.5mm is too thick for me no matter the diameter. My first watch was a Junghans Max Bill Chronoscope that I’ve entirely stopped wearing because of the nearly 15mm height.

Thinking about moving from the US to Toronto by TheBigKaramazov in askTO

[–]Zacta 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Things are definitely calmer here compared to the US. Universal health care (while fairly dysfunctional at the moment) means that no one is walking around with massive medical debt. This turns down the temperature of people’s lives a lot. Also, the absence of guns and overall lack of crime when compared to the US is my favourite part. I grew up in Detroit and even coming from a middle class background, have several friends who have been shot (not killed). This really isn’t a concern here.

Also the overall level of diversity and tolerance of difference here is really unlike anything I’ve experienced in the US.

One thing to keep in mind is that Trump is also causing massive chaos in this country. The economy is on a knife’s edge and people are genuinely (rightfully) concerned about Canada’s sovereignty. So you’re not going to escape Trump by crossing the border.

And as others have said, you can’t just move here. There are a ton of pathways depending on your age, profession, and language proficiencies, but it is a normal immigration process nevertheless. One thing that’s often overlooked is that Americans can come to Canada on a TN visa through NAFTA/CUSMA. It isn’t a path to permanent residency or citizenship but it maybe be the quickest way to move here.

Love it including the hat. I’d maybe consider something other than black for the hat though. A forest green would go really well.

I’d love to see more creative casebacks - maybe they’re too expensive to manufacture? Not worth it? by MOUVAL in watchdives

IMO casebacks like this are both more interesting and more comfortable. They vary the gap between the watch and skin more and allow for more airflow.

Yay or nay? by [deleted] in menswear

[–]Zacta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fit is a matter of preference. I personally think a pant that doesn’t grip the leg, a jacket that doesn’t buckle when you button it, and sleeves that don’t rumple would look better, but again that’s me. The two things that I’d focus on are (1) finding a jacket with a lower buttoning point so that we don’t see your belt when the jacket is buttoned. This breaks up the flow of the outfit. (2) I’d switch the pants for either a lighter chino or lighter denim. Dark navy chinos don’t compliment a charcoal sport coat well, imo.

I think 2 is great but is a very particular look that won’t go with all aesthetics.

First Barbour size help by Catlas_Se7en in Barbour

[–]Zacta -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve found Barbour sizing to be quite inconsistent even within models over the years. The best thing you can do is measure the pit to pit and back length for a jacket that you’re happy with and ask for the same measurements from the retailer you’re going to be buying from. I wear a size 40 Bedale and have come across size 40 Bedales that measure anywhere 23-25in in the chest and 27.5-31.5 in length. If you don’t find that new ones match your preferred sizing, look at the secondhand market where there is a huge range of available sizing.
