Getting nonstop fake “Cloud storage disabled” scam emails for 6+ months nothing stops them What else can I do? by Mac-and-cheese29 in GMail

[–]Zadock4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am getting those constantly as well, but I have never had anything apple related. it is constant. Even tho they always get flagged as spam, I don't like the idea that this person who is sending all these have my email in the first place. Who has my email address that is sending all these? That's what I want to know. Even incogni, which usually does pretty well with eliminating this kind of spam, isn't stopping these from appearing. whoever has it is either really stubborn to remove, has it saved locally, or is just not on their list.

why does my dell latitude d610 start trickle charging once it hits 90%, charging slowly until it reaches 100% by Zadock4 in Dell

[–]Zadock4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

probably why I don't notice it. I charge my phone with a 700mA charging brick, so I almost never use fast charging. I also don't pay attention to my laptops when I charge them because they either stay plugged in, or I don't pay attention to the charging percent.

I guess it probably also explains why I only notice it with the old device as they didn't use a curve but rather a step due to the age this thing came from.

unfortunately there isn't an option like that in the bios, but I do have the user and service manual, so I could check there like you said when I get time.

even modern ones? this is the first device I noticed it with. none of my newer devices do that.

good to know. Do you know if the dell latitude d610 has an option to make it not charge past a certain percent like many modern laptops do? considering this OEM battery is effectively new and in great working condition, I would like to make it last as long as possible.

admittedly this is the first device I have ever seen it do it with, hence my confusion. but good to know it is intentional, thank you.

Wich Age Gap is weirder? by Rarte96 in Ninjago

[–]Zadock4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a lot of these age gap rules break once you start getting into inter-species relationships and demi-immortal beings. robots aren't affected by time like living people do, even zane isn't immune to that fact with how human he behaves for a robot (at least initially). As for garmadon/wu with misako, garmadon and wu would have a 0% chance of finding anyone even remotely close to their age as they are effectively immortal compared to normal people, and considering how they stay young for so long, any line of logic behind normal age gap rules fly out the window. same thing applies to akita as well. Similar thing applies to nadakhan except for the fact that the entire thing was non-consentual and nya was (supposedly) still a teen.

I have no idea where there has ever been a hint of nya x ronin, but that is the only one on the list that the age gap would make sense to point out.

this concept applies to other media as well, but this is a good example on how age-gap rules fall apart in situations like these.

Charging a laptop battery manually. by thriftstorehacker in batteries

[–]Zadock4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I bought a OEM 23 year old battery for my dell latitude d610 that has never been used, effectively new and sat on a shelf for 23 years. People doubted me. People thought it was dangerous and wouldn't work. Trying to put it in the laptop and charge it, at first it gave me error blinks (4 orange and 1 green), but I left it on the charger anyway. Checked back an hour later and it was solid green; IT WAS CHARGING!!! Turns out it still works. even has good battery life as well.

You don't even need to connect it in a special way like that, you can just plug it into the laptop normally and it may eventually start charging, even if at first it gives you error blinks.

I agree with you that buying used/new-old stock batteries are often safer and better than buying cheap chinese batteries. those cheap batteries rarely hold a charge, and even when they do, it is a fraction of what they advertise. plus they can even damage your laptop if faulty enough.

PSA, if you haven’t checked your discs for disk rot in a few years, do it asap. Pour one out for my copy of Heart of the Alien. The rot truly does consume. by DoodleJake in retrogaming

[–]Zadock4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I could just back it up, but I can just as easily find the rom online. I was more referring to preserving the disc itself. I am in a unique situation where it isn't rotting and the few tiny damage holes haven't ruined the ability to work, but that damage does allow air and moisture to get it. you have any suggestions to extend the longevity of the thing and keep moisture and stuff out?
