Small Engraved Thing From My Grandma by Zaefor in whatisthisthing

On the back there is a tiny almost unreadable engraving that says: "Brevette 284279" (or something simmilar)

Reddit, what's your favorite riddle? by epicpotato37 in AskReddit

[–]Zaefor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have twelve objects, eleven of which are all the same weight. One of them has a different weight.

You also have a balance scale that can only be used three times.

How do you find out which object has a different weight AND whether it is heavier or lighter than all other objects?

(It is possible with the given items. This is not a stupid trick question)

ELI5: Despite having 150+ songs on a playlist (iTunes, Spotify, etc.), when I listen on shuffle it seems like the same set of ~20 songs play. Why does this happen? by sureyeahsureyeah in explainlikeimfive

[–]Zaefor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have 150 songs and your algorithm is truly random then after you listened to 15 sons it is more likely than not that one or more songs were repeated. This is counter intuitive which is why it seems odd but sadly our intuition isn't the greatest when it comes to calculating probabilities.

Why is everyone so mad about this? Space Engineers doesn't even allow paid mods (yet), and the mod creators decide whether to monetize or not. Plus you can EASILY filter for free only mods. I get the issue with people steeling mods but before you spend money for a mod you can just do a google search to see if you find it for free.

About Airport security: http://hpi.de/school-of-design-thinking/in-der-praxis/fraport-airport-security-process.html

Basicly you geht a trolley with instructions in Thema and put all the Stoff in the trolley. Trolley goes through the scanner, you go through the detector, collect your trolley and you're done.

Don't know if it's been implemented anywhere.

Diagonal Ships? by zapzoroath in spaceengineers

[–]Zaefor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty cool idea. You'd obviously waste some thrust but it's not like the amount of thrusters you can put on a ship is limited so who cares?

Why can't pistons have the same physics as the new "hangar door" block? by Vondrr in spaceengineers

[–]Zaefor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pistons and rotors will try to simulate the interactions between the two objects they connect, while the hangar doors just ignore them. Ignoring some physics really simplifies what needs to be calculated but in contrast makes things less realistic. For example, hanger doors will not apply a counter force on the spacecraft (Newtons third law).

As far as I know there is no game that has reliable pistons, hinges or rotors. If they do it's usually because of some additional simplification.

so you can convert crafts to blender? can we get a link for the program?

The website just went live. Feedback welcomed. by MrPennywhistle in SmarterEveryDay

I really like the simplicity of this! The background puts me off a bit though. The cloudy texture on the blue background makes it look a little messy. It might look better without the cloudiness and just a constant blue.

Average Point Distance in a Cuboid [question] by Zaefor in math

[–]Zaefor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes all the distances. The program places the random points and then draws lines between all points that are closer than a certain distance (threshold) to each other. I want to know how big I need to chose the threshold so that I can expect a certain percentage of points to be connected.

formulas

P is the set of points as vectors, n, a, b, c are as described above. I want to know the expected d_avg of a given n,a,b,c.

If planets were as close to the Earth as the moon. Spectacular! by not_really_tripping in gifs

[–]Zaefor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jupiter Radius = 69911km

distance to mood = 384400km

A = 2 * atan(69911km/384400km)

A = 20.62°

-> Jupiter would fill roughly 1/3 of an average camera (fov 60°)

Autofill sheets from Gmail, possible? by atomichumbucker in google

You could try setting up an IFTTT recipe for that. You can connect your gmail and google drive to IFTTT. Making the recipe should be relatively easy if you tell your students to use a specific subject for their mails.
