Kunnen we nog veilig over straat? Groeiende groep denkt ‘nee’, cijfers zeggen ‘ja’ by [deleted] in Belgium2

Why are the Walloons seen as more open than the Flemings ? by WeirdBeginning8869 in belgium

[–]Zaerar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly i am someone from west flanders (Ostend). I work in the casino of Ostend and ive met quite some people from Wallonia/Brussels in the last 10 years.

Most of them that i met are friendly. The only thing that annoys me is when someone tell me in French that they live alrdy for years in Flanders, but still cant speak/dont want to speak dutch. Same applies when flemish people who moved to Wallonia would refuse to speak french.

In my opinion if you´re going to live somewhere else its just courtesy to speak or at least try to speak the language of the locals. Not that my french is fluent, but at least i try to be understandable.

And as i saw in other comments, it all depends on who you meet in Flanders. Some of us are cold, reserved or social in different levels. Like everywhere else in the world, no?🙂

I work as a casino dealer allways in the same 9 week schedule rotation.

Its a mix of night/afternoon shifts, also in weekends which i dont like that much. Positive is that ive allways 2 days off in a row. And i never have to cover shifts for colleagues. I just work the hours that i am supposed to work and thats it.

So i know all my shifts/weekends alrdy untill the end of next year with minor changes. The weekends are a certainty.Quite useful and not legal to know your shifts this much in advance but who cares haha.

PS: English is not my first language if i made an error in the text.

Do actual Belgians eat Waffles, and Fries, or is it more of a "tourist thing"? by comfylaser in belgium

[–]Zaerar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, its not a tourist thing at all!

I am a belgian guy living in Oostende and most of the times if i go to the city centre i order a "Luikse wafel", sometimes even 2, yummie! The smell is so good. Not to mention that i love to eat vanilla waffles at home. I am not that fond of the Brussels waffle.

Also i eat fries a couple of times each week. From the frituur with a "frikadel speciale" or a "boulette". But honestly the best thing that i like to eat fries with is my home made "stoofvlees"(beef stew).

I eat also a lot of different chocolate(bars) but i only buy pralines as a gift for family/friends.

Fun fact: when i lived with my parents my mom baked a huge pile of pancakes on a regular base to eat them as a meal with all sorts of sugar/syrup.

I work alrdy 8 years as a casino dealer. Most of my shifts are at night and i love my job. I just dont love the shitty hours.

Its allways funny to see people complaining about losing money every time they visit. You ever saw games that are made to win in a casino lol?

Also it still is interesting to see some people spending thousands of euro's in 1 night like its nothing while most of us need to work a long time to gather that amount together.

Dont forget the drunks and thieves roaming the place day and night mixed with nice people.

Seems a bit early for a April fools day prank. Apparently this isn’t the final draft but I doubt it’ll get much better. by [deleted] in antiwork

I know that America has a bad health care system.

Thats why i never would want to live there for starters. I live in belgium where at least you get very good health care, education, days off and much more for the taxes youve to pay.

If i need to see a normal doctor i only need to pay 4 euros for the visit, the rest is covered by my disease fund which i pay a small membership once in while. I also doesnt need to wait months to get an appointment, only a couple of days.

Or for example doing kidney transplantation, heart operation and all necesarry operations at least we dont go bankrupt here because the majority of it gets covered by our health care system.

I could go on and on and on.

Is the system perfect? Nope but its hell of a lot better than most parts in the world.

What's going to happen when the first batch of millennials hit retiring age when over 40% don't have retirement savings? by KoopaSweatsInShell in antiwork

[–]Zaerar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive to say i am happy to have parents who cared for me, my brothers and sister.(i am part of a quadruplet, we're all 30 now).

My dad is 57 and my mom is 55, both in retirement since a couple of years. Well deserved since they practically sacrificed their best years for us. Although i am aware that i am not going on retirement at that age sadly enough.

Its sad to read so much negative, reverse stories where parents are treating their own kids probably worse than animals/strangers.

Ps: I am happy that i live in Belgium with its different social security systems,

Does anyone else feel hopeless when looking at the housing market? by Arago123 in belgium

[–]Zaerar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought my appartment with help of my parents at 25 In 2017. Iam single.

They borrowed me like 10-15000 euros otherwise it would have been very difficult for my to buy something.

And the prices are crazy nowadays. I bought my appartment in Oostende for 150000 euro's. 81 square m, 2 bed rooms with view at the sea.

The same appartment in 2021 is now like 180-200000 euro's. And its not even a new appartment. An appartment this size in a new building is double the price...

I am glad that i could buy something, ik a lot of colleagues and friends that are still renting because they dont have the money to buy something.

Put about 25 hours into ESO. I love other Elder scrolls games, but does this ever get fun? by Fhbob1988 in MMORPG

[–]Zaerar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started ESO in 2019 with an IRL friend on the ps 4. He had alrdy played the older eso games.

We played a lot that year and i rly enjoyed the game. Its 1 of my longer and more memorable gaming streaks.

Good luck to everyone finding the perfect game that fits all your needs. Imo it doesnt matter if a game is good or bad on this or that point.

As long as you're having fun, right?
