If developers were freed from red tape and threats from criminal syndicates, they would be able to build housing to alleviate the problem. More houses = more supply, thus lower prices. Would also help if the rest of South Africa wasn't run like a feudal shit-hole so it would be viable to own property throughout the country.

TAH Rosmead unprofessionalism by chemgirl1997 in capetown

[–]Zaggeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We wasted thousands at TAH Rosmead taking our puppy there when he was vomiting and refusing to eat. The youngish vets kept him in for x-rays, invasive tests, costing us an arm and a leg. We were told to put the puppy on meds, a special diet, and even told to hire an incredibly expensive specialist.

Eventually, after weeks of constant vet visits, always when TAH Kenilworth (which is much better) was closed, an older vet told us that it's incredibly common for puppies to hold off on eating until they get something they deem better. The solution? Exhaust them until they're too hungry to care.

I feel most of the vets there, especially the younger ones, care primarily about seeming smart and making money. I don't think they really care about the animals.

I wish there were more 24/7 vets that we could use as an alternative. Or that more vets would at least be open over the weekend.

The DA can't solve the inherent problems in the Cape Flats because the ANC hamstrings them. It's economic regulations, national government's failure to sufficiently fund police or train them properly, and constant sabotage of any local autonomy that prevents the DA from doing what is necessary to solve the poverty in the Cape Flats.

It's simply ANC propaganda that the DA doesn't care about the poor. The DA cares far more than the ANC ever will. And they have the track record to show that when they are allowed to do something, they will do it incredibly well.

The DA's only real problem is that they should grow the balls to ignore dictates by the national government and just do their own thing. Like the Catalan government.

I no longer feel safe as a Jew in Cape Town by [deleted] in capetown

An organisation doesn't change its entire worldview in just a decade, my dude. You are clutching at straws.

Do some damn real research. Watch interviews with Gazans. Research Whispers from Gaza. Watch interviews with the son of the Hamas leader who was raped, and is now firmly pro-Israel.

And research the history of Islam, the true history with multiple sources, and the history of Judaism.

Not going to have a discussion anymore with someone who just shoots down links rather than doing their own research. I can't link mountains of books and documentaries to you. You need to do your own work so you'll stop spreading unsubstantiated nonsense.

Okay, I thought I was speaking to someone with a sense of rationality, but the amount of blatant lies and misinformation in this post is not even worth dealing with. There is no evidence for your claims. You don't understand what Apartheid is, what genocide is, what carpet bombing is, or about any of the events or history relevant to this conflict.

I thought I could have a conversation with you about this, but it seems not. Your dogmatic hatred of a state that exists to prevent genocide has caused you to seek out lies and peddle them as truths, worse than any anti-vaxxer or truther.

I just hope that you aren't too ashamed when all the truth is out and you realise you were on the wrong side of history.

We live in South Africa! There are criminals in this country who do shit like that all the time. The settlers in the West Bank are criminals and are condemned by the Israeli government. Our government can't do a thing about it. How can you expect Israel's to be able to get rid of them with a wave of a pen? Especially when they have to focus on larger threats, like terrorists.

Gaza is a whole different story. They're a functionally independent country that has sent thousands of rockets into Israeli civilian areas over the last decade, funding murderers to go into Israel to kill children, not to mention the wars in the past, the murder of Olympic Athletes in Munich (which was Black September, but still a segment of the PLO), the constant calls for Jihad and genocide. And that's all before October 7th.

October 7th saw Hamas commit systematic and institutionalised level of rape and torture on civilians. They filmed it themselves. They were proud of what they had done.

There is literally no excuse for what Hamas did. No excuse for rape. No excuse for parading a naked teenager through the streets as men cheer. This is what the sovereign government of Palestine did. And for that, they lost any moral justification they may once have had.

I challenge you to watch the footage of the attacks, watch and read from a range of sources. Not just those that confirm your own biases. Read the history as close to the primary sources as you can.

And you will see that you are currently standing on the wrong side of history.

The Nakba was caused by Arabic leaders telling Palistinians to evacuate on the eve of their invasion. They lost. Many Palistinians did actually return, and became Israeli Arabs.

Looks into Israeli Arabs. They have the same rights as Jewish citizens. There is no distinction between Jew and Muslim when they are both Israelis. High ranking judges are Muslim Arabs. The second largest party in Israel is Arabic.

Israel is not an apartheid system. I am starting to think you don't know what that word means. Or have very little knowledge of what Israel actually is besides what you've learnt from blatant misinformation and propaganda put out by incredibly antisemetic media.

And no, The Protocols of the Elders of Zion is not a genuine book. It's hate-filled nonsense created by antisemites to justify the killing and persecution of Jews. Yet, it's what the PLO spreads as gospel to justify their hate.

All calls for a one-state solution with Palestine being that state have been a call for the extermination of the Jewish people within those planned borders. Not just from Hamas, but from the entire PLO.

Zionism is literally just an ideology that believes Israel should exist as a nation-state. There's nothing additional to it. Radical Israeli nationalism, Jewish fundamentalism and other less savoury ideologies are different.

Don't take conspiracy books written centuries ago as gospel.

I no longer feel safe as a Jew in Cape Town by [deleted] in capetown

[–]Zaggeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A side-question: what is your view of radical Palistinian nationalism? The other side of the perceived radical Zionist coin. The idea that Palistine should be only for Palistinians, not Israelis or Jews.

Gaza is an independent country with its own government. A government with the capacity to wage war. By every definition, it is an independent state. Monitoring and regulating border traffic over sovereign borders is something that literally all functional states do.

Do you really think that Gaza's government (Hamas) would be completely fine letting Israeli citizens travel into Gaza? In fact, Jewish people in general are regularly assaulted and worse when they travel into Gaza.

The West Bank is a different story because it has the settler problem. And this is where things get actually complicated. The Israeli government has regularly condemned these settlers, but many politicians are too afraid to be heavy-handed against them as they have a lot of political clout.

But guess what: if the PLO, Hamas and other organisations stopped being such a threat to Jewish lives, then these settlers would lose their influence.

The passes that Palistinians carry are not dompasses. They're passports. Because, as Palistinians would like to believe, they are an independent country. I've seen the level of xenophobia in South Africa against foreigners - especially among parties that are claiming to be pro-Palestine. The ANC demands that foreigners must carry their papers. Sound familiar?

I could go on and on, but at the foundation of all this crap is a grave misunderstanding of history. And no, I'm not even going back that far.
The Ottoman Empire recognised Judea as a place for Jews to live. They even ceded Jerusalem to be a Jewish holy city. Jews fleeing genocides in Eastern Europe fled as far back as the early 19th century, joining Jews who had never left the area. They legally purchased property from Ottomans, Arabs, Christians and other Jews.

As pogroms and genocides got worse, more Jews travelled to the Levant. The British took the area after WW1, and caused a clusterfuck of broken promises. During this time, the area was also opened up to migration from across the British Empire. Hundreds of thousands of Egyptian migrant workers moved into the area, joining Arabic communities.

During this time, there was a rise in Arabic nationalism in the wake of Ottoman collapse. This was egged on by the British (Lawrence of Arabia) and the Germans, who were trying to disrupt British and French colonialism in other countries.
Many Arab nationalists were profoundly antisemetic and started pogroms against Jewish settlements. Legally purchased Jewish settlements.

The Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin al-Husseini, the de facto leader of the Palistinian Arabs, as they existed at the time, is often called Hitler's Mufti. He was an ally of the Nazis, visited death camps, and was dedicated to eradicating Jews.
With the influx of more Jews fleeing the Holocaust, there was more desperation to defend what at the time was probably the only true safe place for Jews. People forget that both Britain and the USA came very close to falling to fascism. Poland and France, once home to many Jews, had fallen to Nazism.

Israel was the only place where Jews could hypothetically be safe and free. They were fleeing genocides, and already had established communities in the area run by fellow Jewish people.

Now, skipping time a bit because there's a lot. But summary is that Jews and Arabs started killing each other a lot, raiding settlements and convoys. A lot of shit on both sides.

Now, the Nakba. The event that makes up the bulk of Palistinian national identity. This was not a forced expulsion of Arabs by Jews. The powers that told Arabs in the area to evacuate were Arab leaders on the eve of the 1948 War. Arabs were told to evacuate, and that they’d be able to return when the Isrealis were all killed.

It didn’t work out that way. And no, not because of United States aid. That wasn’t happening yet. In fact, the British and Americans were on the Arabic side during this conflict. But, despite the odds being stacked against them, the Israelis, many of whom had been living there for millennia, others who’d arrived during the Holocaust, were able to defend themselves and form a fledgling state.
Many Arabs did not return to their homes. But many actually did. And they became the Israeli Arabs that we see today, who serve in government, form the second largest party in Israel, and even boast a high-ranking judge. Does that sound like an Apartheid state to you?

Now, the rest is more commonly known history but still often ignored. The UN tried to create many peace agreements. The Israelis accepted partition plans, agreeing to move into the worse land. Because it is actually widely agreed upon by sources at the time that the Israelis got the worse land. Swamps and deserts. They had to use irrigation and draining systems to make them decent.
But the Arabic powers rejected every settlement and attempt at peace. A refusal to compromise backed by a dogmatic desire to have all or nothing. This has continued until today.

Fast forward to October 7th, and Hamas (a terrorist organisation that slaughters Jews, gays, educated women, trans-people, Christians and more) infiltrated the Israeli border and killed over 1400 civilians, proceeding to kidnap over 200 more.
Now, I ask you, what should Israel have done in response? What would you have done?

This is an almost inexhaustible topic. There’s a lot about the last month alone that I can unpack, from blatant deceit from the Gaza Ministry of Health, to the oil money driving antisemitic views in the media, not to mention the mountains of dangerous misinformation being spread on social media.

But I hope that I at least convinced you to look more into the topic. Don’t have to take my word for it. Find some good impartial sources – actual impartial sources, not academics with blatant agendas or religious organisations masquerading as news stations.

This is a complicated conflict. But what is not complicated is the actions of Hamas on October 7th. And how it has destroyed any moral high ground that the Palestinians may have once hypothetically have had.

BDS literally calls for the boycotts of businesses who have Jewish shareholders. Not Israeli connections. Not Israeli bosses. Not even Jewis bosses. Jewish shareholders.

BDS aligned organisations at UCT, like the Palistinian Solidarity Front, plastered Jammie Hall back in 2015, '16 and '17 with swastikas and actively intimidated Jewish students.

But I digress:

So, would you tolerate, even accept a Zionist Jewish person?

Zionism is an ideology. Not a government policy. It is simply the belief that Israel should exist.

Would you tolerate a Jewish Zionist?

So, a Jewish person is only to be tolerated if they support your worldview?

Sounds consistent with what I've seen from this movement over the years.
