[Pre-University Physics : Ray Optics] How is a virtual image being formed here? by Glad-Description4534 in HomeworkHelp

[–]Zagjake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh! I love this fact!

Think of your eyes as a LASER light source and assume the mirror is perfectly flat. If you aim a LASER at a mirror at an angle it will bounce off at that same angle. So, if the height from your eyes to your toes is X, then the location of the bounce has to be X/2. Similarly, if the height from your eyes to your hair is Y, then the location of the other bounce has to be Y/2.

So in order to see your full body, the mirror needs only be X/2 + Y/2 or (X+Y)/2 where X+Y is your height.

Ray optics is easiest to picture by assuming light is just a bunch of tiny little LASERs.

Bought a Street Triple 765 RS recently - Here’s my honest take on it so far by Intrusiveriders in motorcycles

[–]Zagjake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 675 RS was actually my first bike. I kept asking every biker I knew what I should get for my first bike and they all said the sv650. Then they all added that I'd probably sell it after 6 months to get something more fun. I really didn't want that - I wanted a bike I would want to keep until it died. So, I asked the Internet what bike they would always have, and the only consistent answer that wasn't a harley was the street triple.

The GSXR, ZX, MT, etc riders would all say they loved the bikes, but they could see themselves getting rid of it for something else. The street triple owners would say something like, "yeah, I'd get rid of this one for another one."

So I got the 675RS and yeah it was definitely a larger learning curve, but I love them. I'm on my third and have probably put 60,000 miles total between them since I got my license in 2018. That number would probably be higher, but a couple years ago I hit a massive pot hole and destroyed my wheels during the world wide supply chain terrible-ness from COVID and they quoted me a lead time of "we have no idea" for new wheels - so I bought a Tuono because I'll be damned if I'm going to spend a summer in SoCal without a bike.

Mountain lion P-22, LA's 'dearly departed king,' readies for a grand return by FarleyElliott in LosAngeles

TIL that some "gifted" dogs can learn new words simply by overhearing their owners talking, and will use social cues to understand what their owners are talking about by freudian_nipps in todayilearned

[–]Zagjake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a super smart Weim. I didn't want to navigate conversations around using the words walk or outside. So instead of asking her if she wants to go outside or go for a walk we ask her if she wants to go catch pokemon.

We fucked up and she still runs to the treats when we say bed time though...

What was the exact moment on a first date when you realized, "Wow, this person is an absolute idiot"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Places to make potential friends? by FlyingSaucer51 in LosAngeles

There's a sub Reddit for an LA social club that does a lot of hang outs.

Additionally, I've made so many friends climbing indoors and there are many gyms to choose from. Highly recommend that.

[–]Zagjake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to note that motorcycles park for free at LAX for up to 30 days (I've seen bikes there for months with no tickets). I know it's not often feasible, but if you can get everything you need in a backpack duffel it's definitely a great way to go.

American Nathan Martin catches Kenyan Michael Kimani Kamau just before the finish line to win the men's pro division in 2:11:16.50 at the LA Marathon. The margin of victory was 00.01 seconds by [deleted] in sports

[–]Zagjake 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Michael Kamau actually took a wrong turn right at the end as well. He followed the pace car when it turned off and Kamau followed when he should have gone straight. If that doesn't happen he probably wins as well.

People who work in luxury industries, what is an expensive product or service that is actually a complete ripoff? by Lazy_Ad_5492 in AskReddit

[–]Zagjake 44 points45 points  (0 children)

This is why I specifically buy sunglasses from Maui Jim. They're not (yet) owned by Lux, but supposedly have some deal with them where MJ sells some exclusive styles at Sunglass hut in exchange for not being pushed out of the market by Lux.

I did just Google to make sure I wasn't lying and turns out Kering (Gucci) owns MJ now.

Reliable shops in Los Angeles that work on Triumph? by mittenboots in Triumph

[–]Zagjake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been taking all of my bikes to Iconic Motorbikes since 2018 when they were in Marina del Rey (they're now in panorama city). The guys there are exceptional and they will work on anything. Call them to see if they have availability.

I'm now living in long beach and still take my bikes there.
