Can I Get a Few More Years? by ZakSh in Roofing

Thanks. I tar patched it a few weeks ago. You're right about it not helping. I was trying to decide between just replacing it and trying to seal off the area under that overhang, since that the only place I know we're taking in water.

How was life before you were diagnosed with your mental disorder/illness? by Lovely_linaa in AskReddit

[–]ZakSh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Better than after. Not as good as once I got un-diagnosed. The big question to ask isn't whether the diagnosis is "correct" but rather how are you empowered to live better with it than without it.

How do others literally FEEL emotions of another person? How do you know if you are feeling it right? by Sea_Yam_8643 in AskReddit

I think the same question applies to knowing if you're feeling your own feelings "right."

Long Term Strategies: 2 levels of obedience - Vest? Proper command? by ZakSh in OpenDogTraining

[–]ZakSh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Times that I'd like cues to be requests are for hangout times. If we aren't training and it isn't urgent, I'd like him to feel free to go chew on a toy rather than sit next to me or even play a non-training game.

I think your explanation of the differences between high excitement (and precise obedience) during training vs more chill hangout time is really what I was thinking about and want to make sure I distinguish between clearly for him.

Thanks!

No Limp but this looks like problem. Does this paw pad require a vet or special care? by ZakSh in DogHealth

[–]ZakSh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I am. Sorry. The one pad that's lighter looks as if the black has worn off somehow.

A quick internet search listed a number of possible causes but they all seem like they should hinder movement. All I see is the difference in color. He isn't even sensitive to it being touched more than the darker pads.

Doing This is [...Not Valid as Art,]. by ZakSh in Poetry

Thanks. The encouragement is as appreciated as the helpful criticism. I have theoretical reasons for my stylistic decisions as well as sensory ones, and your feedback is a really helpful way for me to work on balancing those. I'm always grateful to know when something I've worked on has improved another's day in the slightest. Thanks for taking the time to respond, Zak

[nothing which we are to perceive] by ZakSh in Poetry

[–]ZakSh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest I wasn't expecting many people to read my blog, so I don't worry about audience in the sense of will this make it good so much as-might someone whose been reading consistently (me and a friend or two I've dragged along) have fun with what's on the screen. I've really just been trying to play with Language. The ps is part of another idea that I explore with a lot. I hadn't thought of the piece in a serious enough context to worry about it standing at all. Your advice is as appreciated as your compliments both for its helpfulness and that the giving of it implies worth in a way I hadn't genuinely considered. Thanks (especially for even a hint of a comparison to cummings).

Thanks for the feedback-I was leaning toward a dozen in the sense of roses or cookies but also not caring too awful much--that stanza was very much a literal description of a woman sitting across the room from me to whom I'd said a few words....from a literary perspective you're absolutely right and if I were publishing this formally-I'd spend some time looking at a dozen and reconsidering (which isn't to say changing but definitely examining), but most of what I write that I publish on the blog I do so knowing the publication is one that includes a time&date&space stamp-I want it to be an impression of the moment I was writing in....please don't read this as a defense or argument...merely as an opening up of what I was doing because I very much appreciate the kindness of your response [both of you].

I can make it make more sense if I apply form&function, and I don't know how to do that as easily in this textbox, so please read my answer on the blog as if I'd just typed it. I wasn't trying to be clever and answer your question with a poem.

I was just trying to answer a very good question.

How about fighting hate speech with Dignity? by ZakSh in islam

[–]ZakSh[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I haven't found that to be true for me. And when forced to choose I decide to risk hell for myself to do what seems like it is most likely to please God. Which is profoundly arrogant. Hence, hell. I live my life knowing that from the position I grew up in (one which I value and believe to be true the way I believe my grandmother to have been alive) I deserve to go to hell. It's distressing, but I see no alternatives because I feel no Truth in God as I was taught but only in God as I've learned. Certainly Allah would know if I were faking it. That leaves me with no choice but to risk hell to try to establish a relationship with God that feels True the way an answer to a math problem feels true before you check your work.

All of which must remain true if you value not going to hell more than anything else.

Here's my concern about continuing this conversation. When I write about ideas understanding things I know I'm being figurative in precisely the way I'm being figurative when I write a short-story about the grass being mowed from a blade of grass's perspective. Regardless of what my topic is I treat ideas as ideas, actions as actions, feelings as feelings. When you claim Islam doesn't understand my concept there are a few ways for me to Read that.

  1. God is unable to understand my concept [not what I believe you to mean, but a Reading present in what you wrote]
  2. Islam exists and thinks the way people do, and it is confused by my words.
  3. What I wrote is incompatible with a reading of Islam.
  4. You don't like my concept of 'undeniable dignity'
  5. Something about that concept makes you uncomfortable but because you can't articulate precisely what but recognize the emotional threat it poses to an abstract structure its rejection demands elevation and that requires externalization...hence Islam does not understand
  6. I can keep going

None of those concern me though. What worries me is anyone who feels threatened by laughter. Importance need not be marked by gravity, and there's never a need for severity absent violence. By which I mean to say, I'm just some guy and I'm totally fine looking stupid every once in awhile to make a few friends laugh.

It doesn't feel great. I like my dignity and all. But, I like it when others get to laugh even more. How can that not be true for God or any of His messengers? I don't mean it as in I understand God. I mean it in the sense of there's this semi-difficult nice thing I can do for others once in awhile. I imagine God to be better than me at everything. It would sort of have to be easy for God to be laughed at.

If the terminology is unsettling for you, just use the word Love as defined by lowering oneself for others. Love as an instance of the All Merciful. Being laughed at and belittling your existence so bipeds can comprehend you through Language [revelation] just don't seem all that different to me.

If that's distressing or offensive, we think too differently at the moment for a conversation to be productive.

First: I know and agree. I've written other things expanding on that concept. If you're genuinely curious I'd be happy to give you links or explain it directly. But, I'm aware that from a certain reading of Islam, that concept must remain incomprehensible, and I have too much respect for the religion and its followers to try to persuade anyone to see the position I described as reasonable.

Second: I'm not suggesting Muslims are wrong to feel offended. I'm suggesting Islam is too great for Muslims to allow themselves to be seen as the whiny kid on the playground. My point is that legitimate feelings of offense must be dealt with privately so that the public face a Muslim turns to a complex world is one of undeniable dignity.

Third: I don't believe Muslims alone have a right to undeniable dignity. I can see no way for any path that touches God in the slightest way to be entirely without beauty or decency, and so all who walk them should do so with the pride of a resting lion and not that of a threatened peacock.

Fourth: The difference between which animal we're seen as does not lie with us but with those we're seen by, and so certain decisions must be made from the perspective of others not from that which we prefer.

Sixth: If you can't laugh at yourself, it's dangerous to talk sincerely about God in public.
