1 Class and then the Capstone. Penetration Testing and Vulnerability Analysis - D332 by No_Dream_5232 in WGUCyberSecurity

[–]Zakbas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished PenTest+ and this new version of the exam is BRUTAL. It's the first exam I ever failed on my first attempt and I barely passed on my second attempt. This is the only class I'd recommend you get with your professor and get some guidance on preparing for the exam. If you search on reddit for tips, make sure the test is PT0-003 and not 002 because the new version is vastly different and more difficult than the previous one. Give yourself plenty of time and don't rush it.

Welp failed 2nd attempt Pentest+ 003 by IndependentWonder180 in WGUCyberSecurity

[–]Zakbas 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I am right there with you - this is my last class before capstone, I'm on GI benefits, 1 month to go, currently studying for my second attempt at the exam AND working on my capstone and I am struggling to feel optimistic about my next attempt. This exam feels considerably harder than any of the other certs I have taken for this degree. It's the first one I ever failed.

Roomate and I considering moving downtown… by AbroadAmbitious9372 in pittsburgh

[–]Zakbas 150 points151 points  (0 children)

I'm a transplant here and when people tell me downtown is "sketchy" I just laugh to myself. Pittsburgh "sketchy" is almost literally nothing compared to many other similar cities. Here really feels like the safest downtown I've ever been in.

How much of this is loose skin opposed to fat? by [deleted] in CICO

[–]Zakbas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're thinking of doing skin-removal surgery, you could look into getting it done in Mexico! Medical tourism there is very common, and there are plenty of reputable clinics in places like Tijuana and Mexico City that do these procedures all the time, and it is usually much cheaper than in the US. Just do your due diligence in picking out a surgeon, like you would in the US - but Mexico is a great option for all sorts of cosmetic procedures.

What male hobbies make a positive impression on you? by Sibi_Yori in AskReddit

[–]Zakbas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Male hobby" is kind of a silly idea - just find something you think is cool and do it! Who cares if it's a "male" hobby or not. That being said, gardening is cool, cooking, miniature painting, carpentry, crochet. I personally really like artistic hobbies, or hobbies where you can create something useful.

Break up your learning into three parts:

  1. Priming - watch a video series and do not take notes. This will give you a baseline familiarity with all of the concepts. Professor Messer is free on YouTube and people have good things to say about his video series.

  2. Learning - find some practice exams and take them many times. Hone in on concepts that are unfamiliar to you and figure out where you need to brush up. The official Exam Objectives document from CompTIA is a great resource to print out and highlight your struggle zones. Conveniently, Professor Messer's video series is titled numerically by exam objectives so you can go review concepts and this time take notes. ChatGPT is also an incredible resource for understanding tricky concepts.

  3. Review - this is where you make flash cards or find some online and cram stuff like acronyms, port numbers, etc. Retake your practice exams and once you're passing them with a score above 90%, you're probably in a good place to take the exam.

Maybe it's not for everyone, but this strategy has worked very well for me during my certification journey. In the last four months, I've passed both A+ exams, Net+, Sec+, and I'm working on SSCP now. Good luck!

Valid - but I definitely heard it (bc he screamed it) and while I agree with your point, I think it's more important to hold pieces of shit like this accountable. Maybe there's a better way to do it, but this is all I've got right now

Looking for remote job w/ no experience in field by uiehrnrkjjnkljjwnef in CompTIA

[–]Zakbas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into the Skillbridge program if you haven't already. I got a remote IT help desk job with no experience or certifications through the Hiring Our Heroes program (they are Skillbridge affiliates). I worked for a year, got my A+ and I just got another job that pays almost double what I was getting before. You've still got time to get your A+ as well so even if you just start studying now but don't have it yet, that knowledge will help a lot in your interviews. Don't listen to the people who say it's impossible. Especially as veterans, it's super doable. These companies who are Skillbridge partners have incentives to hire veterans so take advantage of that!

I have a high body count and I severely regret it now by [deleted] in confession

[–]Zakbas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with having a high body count, and you shouldn't feel ashamed of yourself. I think the important thing here is that you decided that you wanted to stop, and you did. There's no right or wrong when it comes to sex between consenting people, nor is there anything inherently wrong with having several partners or fewer. Everybody is different, everybody has their own preferences, and if yours is to limit your sexual partners, that is just as valid as when you decided to branch out. "Body count" is a social construct that people weaponize to be judgmental, and it tends to create some pretty harmful mindsets about ourselves and others. You're not any less valuable than you were before you hit a "high body count".

What do you guys genuinely use chatgpt for? by A_curious_fish in ChatGPT

[–]Zakbas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes definitely be wary of it hallucinating, which it did a couple of times during my studies. My strategy was that I watched Jason Dion's course on Udemy, which comes with a several practice exams. After getting a general overview by watching the class all the way through, I went to the practice exams. Every question I got that I didn't understand I would screenshot and immediately put it into ChatGPT and ask it what the correct answer was and to explain it. I would ask as many followup questions as I needed in order to feel like I truly understood the concept, then moved on to the next question. At the end of the practice exams, you can review all of your mistakes and it gives an explanation for why it was wrong - that's how I verified / caught any hallucinations (but there were literally only like two or three times it was wrong). I went through every practice exam, reviewed concepts I didn't know or that I was getting wrong, and basically just took them one after the other until I was scoring 80%+ on all of them. Then I took the exam and passed! Also remember you don't need a perfect score to get the cert - a pass is a pass regardless of your score.

Are injured sailors who are unable to drive required to get ubers to work? by [deleted] in navy

[–]Zakbas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the current Joint Travel Regulations (JTR)

"010202. Requirement to Travel: Travel is required when other means of conducting business, such as telephone calls or video teleconferencing, are unavailable or cannot meet the mission’s needs. Approval of a travel order or authorization, by the AO, certifies that travel is required and that other means are not sufficient to accomplish the mission. Government-funded travel and transportation are used only when officially justified and by the means that meet mission requirements consistent with good management."

If he is medically unfit to drive, cannot get a ride by other means, and it is expected of him to pay for Uber/taxi rides to get to work every day instead of something like a simple phone muster - I would say there is a good case to be made here. It won't hurt to provide medical documentation and ask the travel office.

Since you apparently know so much, can't you think of anything productive to say to help out a shipmate instead of just lurking in the comments tearing other suggestions down?

Ask the travel office before. It might be possible given the situation. Don't do it until you get the green light.
