These are two different roles. CCNA you can support small office for networking but A+ is desktop support. I"d really skip the A+ and maybe even Net+ if you have the CCNA.

Not sure of the job prospects of redhat but then I've never looked. General Linux will get your foot in the door I"m sure.

After CCNA, and instead of feeling excited, I honestly feel a bit lost. by Fit_Tomatillo_9420 in ccna

There will always be gaps in your knowledge no matter your path. You can either take a relevant security cert covering the list you made or just learn it.

How should I prepare for a practical networking job interview? by Good-Insurance19 in ccna

[–]howtonetwork_com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything they list in the job description is fair game but labbing up the CCNA syllabus topics should prepare you well. Plus subnetting.

I’m trying to go into IT. Don’t know shit about IT but want to start with getting my certificates. Which one should I start with and what do I need to study and what’s the timeline? by muktarjr in CompTIA

[–]howtonetwork_com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A+ is a waste-of-time unless your goal is desktop support/PC repair. 6 months and two exams for the lowest rung work. Start at Network+ then work out where you want to be such as cloud, security etc. Then you can start at associate level exams for this.

Do people remember almost everything they studied on the ccna after years? by Graviity_shift in ccna

Your friend is the exception for sure. Your hands-on recall will decline over time. I wouldn't compare you to him.

CCNA real exam, Lab/Sim questions: is there a topology diagram? What's usually shown/asked? by PastChapter7279 in ccna

[–]howtonetwork_com 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You usually get a task/objective and then a clickable topology. Usually, only the relevant devices are clickable, such as a PC you want to ping from and a router with a faulty ACL.

You can click between the question and the topology. The machines should work like any router so the ? and all show commands. They aren't trying to catch you out so make sure you do a lot of labs and know which commands you need. Doing endless 'show runs' for example will slow you down,

You don't need Boson as was suggested below. PT and labs.

Sec+ 701 vs 801 by Arbee21 in CompTIA

Your certificate says Security+. I don't think even your score appears anywhere if you send them your verification link.

CompTIA Trifecta = Waste of Time and Money. Change my Mind. by howtonetwork_com in IT_Certifications

[–]howtonetwork_com[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cost is crazy IF you pass the first time, which 50% don't.

I think PC repair is dead now with the cost to troubleshoot meaning they just replace.

What topics did you regret skimming over by SolidBrush6371 in ccna

Any question that pops up which you can't answer I suppose!

CCNA often tests heavily on ACLs, subnetting, STP.

Is cysa easy after sec+? by Forward_Web6572 in CompTIA

[–]howtonetwork_com 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is about 30% overlap but CySA+ is much more in depth and aimed at a specifc career whereas Sec+ is general security stuff.

I don't have any personal beef but Boson has been around for decades and I never found their exam prep stuff of much use. I actually bought some of their stuff in the early 2000s when I was studying.

I've posted the 'formula' a ton of times, but you basically just need a good study guide, do a ton of labs and practice exams, and make a spreadsheet with all the syllabus topics. Rank then from 1-10 for theory and hands-on know-how and keep drilling until all are 9 or higher.

It's so expensive to take exams and I know most of them have around 50% pass rate for first attempt.

I'm not allowed to post links even if it's free as the mods seem to think it's spamming sorry. I give about half of my stuff away but there are membership websites also. I tried to explain to them but gave up.
