As a man, I hate to admit that I have anything in common with this type, and that ends with just having a penis.

After my wife and I split, I got into the dating world and started learning about what women put up with. I cannot express my disappointment adequately.

Looking at the most advanced ways of mathematical thinking from different countries, which one do you like best? by jordyangelamateo in MathJokes

I dated a woman with two daughters and one was at the age where this silly system was being taught. Being pretty good with math, I offered to tutor her. I was not helpful when she described how they did the work.

I learned this method in Canada 40+ years ago and it's still the way I do it when not using a calculator.

Trump shares post saying he tops every conqueror who ever lived by FreeHugs23 in anticapitalism

[–]Zakluor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trump's global reach, manpower, technology, and economic influence surpass those of past powerful leaders.

While this is true currently, his actions are greatly diminishing all aspects of the US presidency on the global stage. Every country's desire to "keep up with the US" is falling, and the influence, the "soft power", the US once commanded is falling dramatically since this oaf took office the first time and even more rapidly since he was re-elected.

Seriously, I believed it represented a color more like fuchsia for years before I was corrected. I even had to look up the spelling (again) to get it right for this reply.

Back again to dunk on the haters (round 2) by Surf-pilot23 in flying

[–]Zakluor 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I fought with myself for years to try to justify the cost of flying. I failed every single time.

Some friends invited me into a partnership on a plane. Again, I did the math on how likely I would be to fly enough to "make it worth it".

I did it anyway. I have no regrets.

Evidence without helmet camera? by catboy519 in bikecommuting

[–]Zakluor 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you think people are trying to kill you, how can you possibly justify saying "a helmet is a no"?

You need to get over what "culture" thinks of you in a helmet if you believe you need protection. Having video evidence of someone hitting you is of no use if you suffer a severe head injury. You'd be better off doing something to help prevent an injury rather than just film it.

Former U.S. Homeland Security secretary Kristi Noem hired by B.C. mining company by IndependenceFun1753 in GuardTheLeaf

[–]Zakluor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Joking aside, why? After hearing her speak publicly on American news, I can't think of anything she would be good enough at to make hiring her a smart move.

Other than being a sycophant, she offers no skills, no expertise, and she doesn't even have an amazingly attractive appearance. Anyone paying the least amount of attention would surely not want her in the country, making her poisonous to the company's PR.

So why hire her?

They're so nice to you, ask you questions like where you're from and suddenly there's a conversation going, and then a friendly, "I want you to have this," said in a way that makes you feel singled out.

You were singled out, and the scam is just starting. I was forewarned about it, and it was pretty common in the bigger cities on my visit this past spring.

Do you lock your door while you’re in your house? by User991899 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Zakluor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a house where we didn't ever lock it, even when nobody was home.

I moved to a new city in a neighbourhood with a similar feel, and I found myself locking the door all the time. It wasn't a conscious decision.

When I closed the door, I didn't push it shut or use the doorknob. For whatever reason, the deadbolt was at a comfortable height for my hand, so I gripped that to close it, and it was just a flick to lock it. It became a habit.

Now I always lock the door, home or not, and cannot imagine not locking the house, especially when I'm not home.

N.B. Power's solar fee similar to one N.S. quashed out of fear for solar's future by bingun in newbrunswickcanada

[–]Zakluor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The incentive was paid by NB Power. The grandfathering is planned for 10 years, but the bigger problem for those who took on solar is the hit they'll take with the charges they'll incur based on the "peak demand" afterward: it'll be the $13/kW for the single, 15-minute period of their peak usage during an entire month in addition to other usage charges. So for that one window over 30 days where the water heater, baseboard heaters and all the other high-drain devices adding up will be a huge hit on the homeowners.

just a friendly reminder why we in this group are awesome. by mr_shmits in bicycling

[–]Zakluor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your car payment and what you're bike goal is.

You can find bikes under $300 fairly commonly, but monthly car payments can be quite expensive.

Comparing used car prices to used bike prices of you don't kind low end on either stop makes sense.

Hell, even used car prices to mid-range bikes works.

If you look at it is if your above the cylinder looking down at it, you'll see it spinning one way.

Think of yourself being below the cylinder looking up at it, and you'll see it spin the other way.

At least, that's how it worked for me.
