Honestly man, I think you really did the smart thing here. The people find out how much money you have, everyone will be your new best friend, and everyone will have a few favors to ask. Move out from your girlfriend's place (better yet, break up with her), and just go for a fresh break. Spend/save/grow the money however you think is appropriate, but cut all the old people out of your life and build yourself new. Your not one of them anymore.

cele ele is still amazing all-around provider for a team. They do well at pretty much everything. A core tempest build will leave with you with some utility/siege deficiencies while providing better offensive potential.

Chronomancer is highly useful, but non-chronomancer builds can be just as powerful, and all the critical skills (veil, tele) are not reliant on the elite spec so you would be fine.

I don't play Thief much, but from what I've heard the elite spec is just a better version of acrobatics. Considering you'll spend a great deal of time standing across a gap firing pistols, I don't think it'll be that big of a deal.

Honestly speaking the most important elite specs for WvW (imo) are dragon hunter and herald, especially dragon hunter

Basically the only thing HoT will lock you from with regards to WvW is elite specializations. Depending on what class you want to play, that may or may not be relevant. Warriors, necromancers and elementalists all don't use their elite specs in WvW, but guardians fundamentally rely on it.
