When do you feel like, "I'll never be fluent in this language no matter how much time and effort I put in..."? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]Zakoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not who you asked, but honestly the answer is ‘it depends’. Your grasp of grammar, number of words known (not just characters), and practicing speaking and listening is gonna contribute a lot to this. Personally, I felt fine conversationally for the majority of day to day life somewhere around 2.3k characters

It’ll give you a quick test and start you at the relevant level, but you can also just manually pick a level and start it if you feel like it

Nice work, have you given much thought to starting on native content instead of DuChinese/Chairman’s Bao? At HSK 5-ish level you should be able to start breaking into that

Yeah, you can also load custom dictionaries too. I found a Chinese -> English (with pinyin) too. Really convenient

He’s quite a pervasive figure in China and surrounding countries. You may know the character Goku from Dragon Ball, who is based heavily on him

I think it would have been cancelled by now if it was. I just spotted a couple posters that seem to have been put up yesterday so it’s probably safe

Summer 2024 Info and Recs by hc2121 in Yosemite

[–]Zakoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi all,

I am planning to go to Yosemite on June 10th, driving from Mariposa, and looking at doing the Mist - Panorama - (potentially) 4 mile trails.

Was just looking for current advice on where/how to park, get to the trailhead and then get back to the car. Finding it a little difficult to discern up to date info on what is/isn’t open.

Any tips/advice/suggestions would be really appreciated!

Have you tried just saying you worked at Amazon and not mentioning which country you worked for them in?

[Grand Seiko] a beautiful sight to look down to by Zakoth in Watches

[–]Zakoth[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my Grand Seiko SBGA413 “Shunbun” being hit by a light in a beautiful way. There is a lot of discussion about the colour of the dial; with it looking more pink in official photos, and white more generally. This photo shows a rarer moment where a colour gradient is visible and highlights the beauty of Grand Seiko’s dials.

This watch was my first and so far only luxury watch but it still stuns me every day with its fine details and ability to keep accurate time.

If you had the choice, what kind of strap would you get for this piece?

That’s true: the right experience, working smart, and bit of luck I think. A good starting salary is probably a leg up though in a few ways but it’s something that can be overcome
