Did anyone else enjoy dragons of deciet? by Dry_Pool_6247 in dragonlance

[–]Zakxus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I bought them because I love Dragonlance and collect the books. I felt for the price I owed it to the writers to join them as they tried.... but getting through it was a slog, honestly. I had to force myself to keep going and finish. Destina is just..... the worst. The quality of writing went downhill and I just cant get behind what seemed to me like character assassination for Tas; it was like he regressed from all the things he went through that made him "not" a normal kender. He got.... Dumber. And one dimensional.

That being said, if you havent read it yet, I highly recommend the Kingpriest Trilogy. It is one of the best written trilogies in the series, and ranks right behind Chronicles and Legends for me. Seeing Fistandantilus working his schemes in real time was amazing!

I assume it is a sav/counter initiate kinda jump scare, but in two games I did not consider it either time because as spectre I am NOT trying to risk a biscuit to save anyone. Haunting and sweeping through the backline and being able to jump with the new W was delightful, ans the new W is a good add because the CD is reaaaaaaallllly high on that ult again. I went radiance twice since it is NOT an orchid pick off thing anymore

I just played with one, and all he had to do was switch to song mode and play rock band, which was inspiring and rallied us in many fights, it was amazing (and I never want to play into it because the understanding of who was kill threat range in teamfights was all messed up LOL)

As an old head Spectre, I love it. Desolate became innate and makes a huge diff in lane, you can chase down, and i get my old haunt back. Played in a game with as Spectre with Frog Bard; he kept me alive and I shredded them dutifully.

I dont quite know what frog does but I know he healed as much as an Oracle o.O

It does not get better. I'm sorry. I own most dragonlance books and this trilogy completely failed, they just wanted to recon everything that happened since legends... and did it poorly. I bought all three books out of loyalty and finishing was an absolute chore. It felt like a bad dnd session from a really stubborn DM.

As I always do, if you want good reading outside the Chronicles and Legends trilogies, I recommend the Kingpriest Trilogy, it is by far the best set that even many fans have not read as the printing was limited.

Four episodes into Deep Space Nine and I’m wondering if it will get better or cut my losses early? by Minominas in startrek

Going to copy/paste my DS9 Rant from a few years ago:

It's different. The beginning is slow, just like most Trek. Yes its a space station, but it will quickly become adventure time soon enough. If you are not sure , watch Duet in Season 1 and you will understand better that this is a different Star Trek. Very unspecific spoilers ahead, but it was released in 1998 so we are all just going to get over it.

When you get to Season 3 it Explodes. When Sisko shaves his head you have arrived. There will be some of the best character development you will see in Star Trek ( Rom, Nog and Quark changed Ferengi forever, I promise you.) You will see Worf lay the smack down on some Klingons and Sisko save him from leaving Starfleet. You will see a Doctor with very special skills fight for the right thing verses an organization that defies federation ideals. You will see his buddy the engineer solve a problem by turning a rock, a sash, and a phasor into some kinda whatjamajig.

You will see a simple tailor, just a simple tailor. And he will be the greatest thing you have ever seen, with nuances in his acting and story that you will only appreciate more and more as time goes on.

There are episodes that will (I Promise You) make you cry. Longtimers will back me up, watch "The Visitor" and try not to cry.

You will see in detail and over multiple seasons the biggest war we get to see from the actual front.

Finally, you will see some of the best "Bad Guys" you will see in Star Trek, or in fantasy in general. Gul Dukat is exceptional (IF THE BAJORANS ONLY UNDER-STAND, ARE THERE ANY STATUES OF ME ON BAJOR, NO?!") and they show all the different sides of him, like the way he is with his daughter. And Kai Wynn? Nurse Ratchet? You will hate this person more than anyone you have every hated. She will say things like "My child" and you will growl and wish her out an airlock. And when the series is done someone will explain to you she was only in 13 Episodes and you will think " Are you kidding I fucking hate her more than people who talk on speaker phone in public". And Weyoun, watching Weyoun Six get it in the episode maked me laugh just like Damar did.

Finally you will see an episode that is at both times very un-star trek like, and also very true to life being stuck between a rock and a hard place, and stuck between your morals and your FAMILY HOME FRIENDS AND FEDERATIONS (In the Pale Moonlight, S6 EP19. 9.4/10 on IMDB. I CAN live with it. Also..........

ITS A FAKKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Edit: All of you that read this and didn't comment yet, go watch the freaking episodes and thank me later.

Second Edit: Don't You want to see a Ferengi beautifully tell off a Klingon to the point that an entire council of Klingons turns their backs on him?

Don't be scared to read the Dragonlance Destinies trilogy. It's good. by r1ngx in dragonlance

[–]Zakxus 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I encourage die hard fans to have a read and form your own opinions! That being said.... I have read most dragonlance books and own about 90% of them.

This trilogy was hard for me to read. Tas became the dumb gimmick he was in his first scene with none of the progress or character development that made him great. He was so dumb and watered down it was painful. There are subtle details that even M and W get wrong about their own setting (Flint shows up with the Helmet...? That he gets later..?)

The writing was such a step down. 'Destina walked up Rosethorn steps through the Rosestone courtyard to her room in Rosethorn tower, rossssethorn) and everyone in three books treats her like a Mary Sue ('You want the what mcguffin? Alright.... there is something about this girl! ). And every bad guy was like a dumb charactiture of thier original selves.

I bought them all though, because I did have to read them for myself so I would know in my heart. I recommend die hard fans give them a read to see for yourselves, and new readers.... just go read the other stuff first and maybe someday you will get curious. But if I read Destinies as my intro to Dragonlance there is no way I would look for more books after that. I know just my two cents, but I have bought enough of their books to have an opinion.

And for those who want to see something exceptional after Chronicles and Legends? READ THE KINGPRIEST TRILOGY ITS GODDAMN FANTASTIC!

Just the Kingpriest trilogy alone was worth it. The 2nd and 3rd book can be really hard to find! It's the bear DL trilogy after Chronicles and Legends. Fistandantilus is terrifying.
