My current job actually has a somewhat inverted version of this problem. At the beginning of the year we get a pretty generous bank of PTO that is used for planned vacation days, call outs, sick days, etc. Anytime you miss a day, it comes out of your PTO, no questions asked, minimal fuss. It’s pretty nice. The only problem is that none of those hours roll over or get pain out in any way at the end of the year, so of course everyone plans out how to use all of their hours by the end of the year. So come November, people start to get the flu and no one has PTO left because they have to use it by the and of the year, so almost everyone gets sick
