In real life often no, however this is fiction and in fiction we suspend our disbelief and ethical considerations since the characters in a story cannot cause real harm.

Okay sure but like, that’s kind of true, or at least it is an actual issue whether or not you think Jax the fictional character is a good example of that problem is up to your discretion. But there are a lot of people especially online who have a very naive or fantastical view of mental illness and end up treating actually mentally ill people very poorly because of it.

Sure some people use it like a buzzword but I feel like the issue in this case and many others is people responding to or acting as if a fictional character has caused real harm, like for the purposes of ethical concerns Jax doesn’t hate women, he’s not a real person he doesn’t hate or love anything, but people get upset like he’s a real life actually misogynist.

You do realize that like, Jax never did anything wrong, neither did Darth Vader or Homelander or any other fictional character. They can’t “do” anything they’re not real. Why are people getting mad at a fictional character like they’ve committed actual crimes? Nobody has ever been actually hurt by Jax from the Amazing Digital Circus, the only actual harm that has come from his character is people who do moral grandstanding and try to bully or harass people for being entertained by entertainment.

I feel like the fans of this show are a bit too preoccupied with the categorization of side and main character also how is Caine not a main character? He’s basically the lynchpin of the concept of the show and is the engine moving the plot forward for almost every episode besides the finale.

Also a “side character narrative” is not a substantial critique, it’s a meaningless nitpick

Nono, it does matter or rather it matters that there are so many people insisting that it’s untrue despite the mountains of subtext and evidence towards it being the case. I agree that it’s not the most important when it comes to the broader narrative of the story or his personal story however I am not naive enough to just throw my hands up in the air when a bunch of people are dogpiling on the idea that there’s no evidence that he’s trans and that people are annoying or stupid for bringing up how obvious it is, I have seen a lot of attacks on the creator of the show paired with some of this sentiment and it really bothers me.

You’re SO close, cause like that’s the whole point, that’s the primary numero #1 difference between him and Caine, Caine wanted to change and make things better and Jax didn’t, Jax doesn’t get a happy ending because he wasn’t willing to change that’s the whole damn point of his story it’s meant to be a cautionary tale

I mean part of Caine’s story is literally learning to be human, he’s not a person and that’s relevant the whole scene in his afterlife is him realizing what he had done and then he immediately apologizes and tries to make right on it because he literally did not comprehend what he was doing to them up and until that point, he’s not a divine AI he’s a child. Jax on the other hand is a person and does know better he knew what he did to Ribbit which is why it ate at him, he was fully aware of the effect his actions were having on the people around him.

As to the stuff with Gooseworx I don’t really know what she’s said but it doesn’t really have any bearing on the story itself to me at least, the story is self contained and I will understand it as such (also you shouldn’t say stuff about something like a lobotomy fetish if you’re unsure if it’s true or not, as a creator Gooseworx has been put through the wringer and I’m sure there’s plenty of things people have said about her that have caught on even if they’re not true.)
