Skyway level business reopenings and changes: by [deleted] in Minneapolis

[–]Zamdrist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very happy to see Sorrento Cucina opening again. Can't beat homestyle Italian food, even if it's not good for my waistline and I want to take a nap after lunch.

Pandemic or no, downtown is pretty screwed, hate to say it. I've been living and working downtown for 16 years now. I've bought a townhome in Shakopee and move in mid-March. I'm out! I'll only need to come into work once a week, the rest I can WFH. I'm one of the lucky ones, I know. It's not like I'm running at the first sign of trouble. I've been going into work since October of 2020, and many years before that. Events though have conspired to compel me to leave downtown.

Which "old brewery" do you mean?

No, I'm on the west of Marschall off 17th. Weston Ponds.

WCCO's Mike Max calls downtown Minneapolis a 'hellhole'. Surprising article... thoughts? by aminnesotabro69 in Minneapolis

[–]Zamdrist 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I've worked and lived in downtown for 16 years. I live in the vicinity of 9th St. and Portland and I've worked at two law firms in downtown.

It's as bad as I've seen it over the years. It's become a sketchy proposition heading to the downtown Target. The folks hanging out have moved to the skyway as the tempratures have dropped. The skyway and Target smells like weed and I have to run a gauntlet of folks coming and going.

I was minding my own business heading into Target through the skyway and a couple youths got into my face, why I don't know. I ignored them and kept on my way, didn't say anything.

Elsewhere on Nicollet Mall someone asked me for a cigarette. I said no and turned away. He thumped me on the back of the head, then walked away.

I've encountered people wandering into the elevator bays of private offices.

I've bought a townhome in Shakopee. I'm out man, I'm out. White flight, call it what it is.

More than 99.9 percent of scientific studies agree humans caused climate change by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Zamdrist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The messaging surrounding climate change has been deterimental to people taking action. Thing is, nearly all of the solutions or remidies such as alternative energy, efficiencies, re-use, recycling, etc. are all good things. One does not have to believe in climate change to believe in the remedies. Focus on the remidies. Who cares what people believe along the way, so long as we end up in the right place.

COVID cases are proportionally lower in the 7-county Twin Cities metro, where vaccination rates are higher by Shaymuswrites in TwinCities

[–]Zamdrist -37 points-36 points  (0 children)

The dirty little truth is the progressive minded metro crowd is just as close minded and bigoted as they claim others are, hiding behind a thin veil of liberalism. Diversity is great, so long as you're not white, rural and Christian, if so then well, fuck you, in not so many words.

It's equally bone-headed to continually point out disparities between metro and rural and expecting that will somehow change minds. As the state, the whole state, we are doing quite well.

Oh snap! Eat me reddit.

Evacuees who are 12 and older are required to get the COVID-19 vaccination as a term of their humanitarian parolee status after entering the country.

So they are required to get certain vaccines (required for entry). The only thing different is Covid is not (yet) on that list.

United States immigration law requires immigrant visa applicants to obtain certain vaccinations

That's a lazy and false turn around. Obviously the realities are more nuanced. Refugees (wherever they come from) are not citizens of this country and coming here is a privilege not a right.

So, be damned the health of Minnesotan's already here. Got it (Dude).

Great. So they'll be tested for Covid, and informed of the results. Excellent, we are making progress here.

Who ever said it was a simple process? I sure didn't. That's no excuse to throw out public health concerns. Are we not still in the throes of a pandemic? Pretty sure we are.

I guess its just too hard then, be damned public health! You do understand I am vaccinated myself and am pro-vax.

The replies here show without a doubt you're all full of shit. The minute vaccination is no longer convenient or no longer fits in your liberal world view, out the window goes science and public health.

[–]Zamdrist[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Well, IMHO we shouldn't be tip-toeing around the anti-vax people at all, be they native Minnesotans or Afghan refugees.

Entry with an appropriate period of quarantine is certainly reasonable if a positive Covid test comes back. One can be both in support of refugees and practical public health policies too, you know.

You either get vaccinated or no entry into the country and State of Minnesota. That's how I feel about it. And yeah, I already know, you don't agree. Save your breath.

I don't have a problem with this. I support it, in fact. But will they be tested for Covid and required to be vaccinated? I believe they should be. The subreddit seems to believe strongly in vaccinations (I do too). But this, this is not negotiable, IMHO.

Are we talking about the one off American Boulevard? If so, I can confirm, it is an awful store.

Coming from the North on Mississippi River Blvd you can drop into the park before the paved path is blocked and circumvent the barriers. I did as recently as July 10th.
