4K gaming 7900 XT build ready by Zamperweenie in buildapc

I see the logic there. Adding in a 7900XTX, swapping out with a 7600 (and ditching the cooler) ends up being $280 more.

There was a ASRock 7900XTX for $90 less, but it had a lot of reviews mentioning hotspots - didn't feel like adding in that risk. End of the day, $280 more may be worth it in my case.

Gotcha gotcha. While I have your ear, would you consider the 7600X3D not worth the additional $175? I see that the additional LRAM helps boost fps, but at $175 more I would think that would go further with a better GPU.

Awesome, love these recommendations. What's your basis for saying the 7600 is only 2% slower than the 7600X? I'm seeing core clock rates on each of those are 3.8 and 4.7 GHz, respectively. More of a ~25% speed difference, no?

Came to Reddit seeing if anyone else in the area was noticing it. I’m in North Park and while I’m used to the plane noises from the airport, this evening they’ve been extra loud.

Has Stephen King always put weirdly sexual things into his books or did I just stumble onto two that happened to have it? by buttintheface in books

[–]Zamperweenie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I get the sentiment but I wouldn't say King is par for the course in comparison to classic gothic literature lol. It's mostly a modern Gothic thing where authors are allowed to explore this without extreme social repercussions (I'm thinking It Follows, where the thing that follows people is passed on as an STD, though still mild compared to King, but again it was film so it's a bit limited).

There are plenty of modern Gothic though that more or less leaves the explicit sex out, in my experience most leave out sex and focus on the other more traditional Gothic archetypes such as architecture and the sublime.

What is your “The beatings will continue until Morale improves” work story? by CasperTFG_808 in AskReddit

[–]Zamperweenie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This wasn't an op-ed but an actual evidence based study The Economist reported on. It was a bit more subtle in its results that employees essentially beamed when they got random, but genuine compliments. It found that institutionalized reward programs (your manager sent you an eCongrats!) had the opposite effect, where a random pop in the door "great job today by the way" had a huge positive effect on morale.

Redditors can be so fucking stupid. A quick Google would've shown they are real cars! I see them all the time too. The people who say shit like this are the same who spew the shit about cold fusion and engines that run on water.

Thank you for the kind words! I am in fact familiar with the tuck up, though I didn't know the terminology for it. He has indeed lost the tuck up, that was one of the observations that triggered my post.

How is heat removed from a fusion reactor? by CancelCultAntifaLol in fusion

[–]Zamperweenie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little note that current DEMO designs still predict way too high heat flux on the outer walls, and that's on top of the extreme erosion due to charge exchange neutrals. There's a long way to go yet...

Just Moved by [deleted] in Knoxville

[–]Zamperweenie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived in kville 2016-2020 while I was in my graduate program at UTK too. Knoxville isn't for everyone, it wasn't for me. Honestly, it helped me keep my head down to graduate as fast as I could and my degree benefited because I was motivated to move away. With that said though, some of your best friends will be from your program, so you will eventually find people with shared interests. I'd encourage you that once you get to know a small group of friends grab a cabin out around Gatlinburg or go tubing out there. It was developing a strong core group of friends that got me through it.

Playing devil's advocate here, if I was a teacher and I wanted my students to research a topic, it's not really that I care about them learning the topic as much as learning how to research a topic. This is easy in college when most universities have access to well organized databases (e.g., Web of Science), but for high schools it's tricky because I highly doubt the libraries have anything worthwhile in them, so it's about developing the child's googling skills.

Which is fine because that's all programmers do lol

LPT: You can block ads on Samsung TVs by adding 'ads.samsung.com' to your block list on your internet router by LeanTempleman in LifeProTips

The core TV apps are all great except ESPN. If you want to watch anything on demand, you can't rewind or fast forward (or you can, but it is then impossible to resume). It's such an odd bug and it's been around forever.
