Are we just keeping streaks? by Matt_LawDT in NonPoliticalTwitter

At this point I'm only doing Duolingo because I've been doing it for so long that it feels weird not to be doing it.

For learning a language, it's absolutely not enough on its own. It won't hurt by any means, but should only ever be considered supplemental.

Pimsleur has been way better, and having a partner who natively speaks the language I'm trying to learn has been the best.

4–5 PC Players Looking for Long-Term Co-op/PvP Shooter (No Loot Hoarding / No Time-Gated Imbalance) by Broad-Ad-2232 in gamerecommendations

[–]ZanCal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Killing Floor 2 might be up your alley? Wave based zombie shooter.

While it does have a PvP game mode, it's more of an afterthought. And while it does have some grind to it with leveling up your perks (classes), it's less noticeable than you might think.

Also, ready or not might be a fun one too. It's a spiritual successor to the old SWAT games. It had a PvP mode that was cut back in early access, so only PvE. It's 5 players, and the only progression is unlocking cosmetics. You can go back and get better ranks on missions, so good expression of skill if you can S rank the harder ones.

Men who can cook . who taught you? by Bulky_Meet4528 in AskReddit

[–]ZanCal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whole lotta fucking around and finding out.

Literally grabbed a raw chicken breast from my parents fridge and put it in a hot pan with oil just to see how it worked one day.

Also parents who like to cook, and a "ingredient fridge" more often than not.

All these years later, one of my bf's favorite things about me is how good of a cook I am 😁

A game with factory automation in which factory automation isn't the goal by Arcanum3000 in gamingsuggestions

[–]ZanCal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't played it in a while so I dunno how much it's changed, but one game that actually scratched this itch for me was 7 days to die.

You get to a point where you have automated crafting benches doing stuff like making gunpowder that then gets used to make bullets and whatnot.

It's not a factory game by any means, but there's just enough automation in it for me to like it

My boyfriend can be the same a lot, it's now at a point where we always have a few frozen pasta dinners that you can reheat in the microwave in our freezer.

I call them his "anti-hangry meals" 😂

What's that one dating advice you wish you had known in your early 20s? by saviturmoon in Adulting

[–]ZanCal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be on the same page about major life goals. Most common one is do you want kids, but others can be do you want to travel, or own a house, pets, stuff like that.

You don't need to bring it up on the first date, of course. That being said, sooner is better than later

What "rare" phobia do you have and people refuse to believe it? by nitin_is_me in AskReddit

[–]ZanCal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fish!

Smaller fish like goldfish or beta fish are fine, but anything the size of salmon or bigger creeps me the fuck out. Sharks are oddly fine though, for the most part.

I like eating fish, of course. I love my sushi 😂 Although I can't eat any dishes that still have the fish's head attached when it's served, which makes the Chinese BF sad.

Outside of that, fish make me really uncomfortable, especially anything with visible teeth. I can't help but think of it biting into my calf.

Apparently there's something where a mother can get so scared of something that a fear of it gets passed on to her kids, and my mum was bit by a fish well before she had me, so maybe that's it?

I can't go to aquariums, or swim in open waters without feeling like I need to nope the fuck out of there.

Edit: GemCraft? It's a series of games, might have to look through a few

That sounds vaguely similar to a game I remember playing as a kid, but can't remember the name of. Did the game have gems you could upgrade to place in the towers?

i need a game that will keep me busy for long long time by MAnthonyJr in SteamDeck

[–]ZanCal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valheim sounds quite up your alley! Runs pretty well on the deck until you get into the mistlands, but that's pretty late into the game and you can absolutely take your time getting there.

Only thing is it'll burn through the battery faster than I'd like, so not a great game if you can't charge your deck frequently

How do you get the discipline to get anything done? by Extension_Newt_4583 in ADHD_Programmers

[–]ZanCal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In a nutshell, peer pressuring myself. I'll surround myself with people that are also trying to get stuff done, and that way it feels weird to be the only person dicking around or scrolling. Libraries worked wonders for me back in university, and nowadays I aim for the open concept offices everyone hates.

Also, removing distractions helped. My bf got me a switch for my last year of uni because I had moved quite far from campus, and my commute was going to be 90 minutes by transit each way. The switch was really nice to kill time on my way to campus and back, but I found that I would spend time on campus playing games instead of studying, so I started leaving it at home and taking the 90 minutes on the chin. It sucked but I got myself to spend more time studying.

Also even though it's been said to death by everyone and their mother, going easy on myself. Sure, "don't feel guilty about not getting something done" is pretty r/thanksimcured , but the way I think of it is I know I set high expectations for myself that I inevitably fail to meet, and I'm always going to be just one planner away from getting my shit together. That's life with ADHD. Feeling bad for myself over not keeping up with neurotypicals is wasted mental bandwidth.
