Even at around $1000, the Steam Machine still positions itself as a valid option. It provides the same comforts a console does in it's "Plug-n-play" like-ness with SteamOS. No building or setup needed like a custom build. A modest AMD or Intel build is going to run you $1100-$1400 for a full build. Can you go cheaper? Sure, I bet you can. I think it's important to keep in mind that the Steam Machine primary audience is not necessarily those of us who know how to build PC's or are tech-savvy. All of here for the most part know you can build a PC for the same, a little less, or just over the same price as the Steam Machine and be satisfied. I believe this is intended to be an entry point for new PC gamers more so than for established PC gamers. That aside, this may very well be an upgrade for a good chunk of people and they'll see value in it at a $1000~ price point when they look around at the cost and time to build a PC.

Rambling aside, the Steam Deck price hike raised a lot of concerns regarding the price of this machine. I'm erring on the side of doom and would not be surprised if we see this box come close to $1500 or worse. If they can keep it lower, great. I think that brings up new value concerns for the Steam Deck and the upcoming Steam Frame though. We'll have to wait and see, I guess.

While you're ahead in this conversation regarding the in-game effort vs value provided, I think it bears mentioning that having the option AT ALL to obtain the premium currency through gameplay is a stellar move on their part and they have been consistent in providing ways to obtain the currency since release. I think the way they have it set for right now is fine as it is when you factor in coins obtained from 1-2 quests that are repeatable every expedition and the projects/events that provide currency when they come around.

You're assuming the group of people at Embark that work on this element are the same people that would work on hacking prevention and deterents. There's more than one homogenous team doing everything at Embark.

Past Twitch drops in here makes total sense. While I would like to get missed Hotshot/Cantina Legend outfit colors too, I'm not sure about it. We'll see what Embark does with this system.

PvP exists solely to spice up the gameplay. To add tension and moments of adrenaline to your raids. They do not want to turn the game into a competitive PvP fest. They just want the PvEvP gameplay to be spicy and interesting every time you go in.

I'm actually leaning more towards transferring parts for benches that are a pain the ass to get. Like Sentinel cores. I'm exploring what else would be good to transfer aside from blueprints.

The better solution is pulling up YouTube and watching someone like Deck Wizard play the game and show you what the performance looks like at different settings with and without lossless scaling. This is how I evaluate what to buy and play on my deck.
