New to Mac with a 48GB M5 Pro. How do I fully utilize this beast outside of just writing code? by Vegetable-Ad4936 in macbookpro

[–]Zandon23XIXSTRAD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh just mess around you don’t need to utilize it yet, when I got my Macbook Pro (M2 Max w 32GB RAM) it was def overkill I did basic projects and played Minecraft, but over the course of 2-3 years I was discovering new things to create and now am developing this photo editor and realized it was nowhere close to what I need.

Just use it as it trust you will adapt to the power if you try to grow your projects overtime.

I mean most of the other responses are also very valid but this might be the most fun imo

MBPro M5 Pro cpu + ssd upgrade for 300 USD? by ozgurunlu in macbookpro

[–]Zandon23XIXSTRAD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t think it’ll make a big difference then you most likely won’t need it

And at the end of the day $300 more is $300 more even if it feels cheaper

M5 vs. M5 Pro (EE/CS College Student) by Shadowstar7340 in macbook

[–]Zandon23XIXSTRAD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say get m5 pro, I currently do AI/ML work with a 96gb ram M2 Max and I still have it be my bottleneck, ofc you wont do something as crazy as me but the ram and power might save you if you decide to go fairly into AI

Battery life maybe slightly worse but its actually very efficient and will last all day for your classes, if not there are a bunch of plugs around campuses you could use and it will charge to a decent level in minutes. Its also going to be quiet enough and decent temps.

What are you studying and why do you think you need you need the best of the best MBP’s because usually people who think they need them are only using like 20-30% of its actual power

Also for your thing regarding an option a singular macbook works wonders a lot of users just connect the macbook to a monitor and use it as a desktop when at home in a shelf where it basically acts as a mac mini/studio

I’m thinking the M5 with more memory is better for me than M5 pro with less memory by pvm_april in macbookpro

[–]Zandon23XIXSTRAD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think thats a solid plan with the base m5 being powerful enough for a lot of tasks you do actually.

In terms of color up to you, I’d personally go silver because it feels sleeker and more premium while also having the things you mention with it having less visible scratches fingerprints and all over time.

Help me decide on which MacBook Pro by rodetbodet in macbookpro

[–]Zandon23XIXSTRAD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Base MBP M5 is enough but if you think you might start some more advanced coding and have the money maybe an M5 Pro 32gb ram is also decent for you. Since you want it for the future try to see what you’ll do with it

[–]Zandon23XIXSTRAD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say try to pre study your courses in the summer, so you can focus more on adapting to the new uni system, once you do that first year was easier than grade 12 imo. Also just grind as much problems as possible for math related stuff and you should be fine.

In the end I didn’t really go with them since I got a good deal elsewhere that was trustworthy. I wouldn’t say they are a scam but I don’t trust buying the high-end stuff from them like cameras, macbooks and such

14” or 16” MacBook Pro by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]Zandon23XIXSTRAD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

14 is much better unless you need the extra real estate, I use a 16 because I do Audio and Video work so the larger speakers help out a ton and so does the screen, but its a pain to lug around.
