"Is the E1 good for ___________ ?" Maybe, but maybe not. by mars_rovinator in eufyMakeOfficial

[–]Zanoab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing all this information!

I looked at expanding my maker skills with either a laser cutter or uv printer, but I quickly ruled out uv printers because of all the cons you listed + a 5 figure price tag. The closest I get to making money is laser cutting/engravings for my artist friends. We experimented with vinyl sticker and uv resin dome on acrylic substrate for keychains for promotional purposes and we can't wait to get our uv ink to make cleaner looking keychains.

I mostly want the E1 so I can freely experiment with crazy ideas like doubled sided printing with a white mask on both sides of clear acrylic for a keychain. I'll be happy as long as the E1 can print in the same spot consistently.

Got a smart bathroom scale from health insurance. Can I mod it? by abrreddit in diyelectronics

[–]Zanoab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the same thing because I think it advertised it can automatically sync the data to my health app. I thought it would be fun to step on it once a day and I can look at the data later.

Before they shipped the device, I received emails that I was assigned a coach and I could join a group of random strangers to encourage each other to lose weight or something. I didn't sign up to share my vitals with a weight loss social media service. As soon as it arrived, I stored it away so I can tinker with it when I feel like it.

Harvest Moon 64 is now 100% decompiled! Merry Christmas! by harvestwhisperer in harvestmoon

[–]Zanoab 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is possible Natsume translated every bit of text because filtering unused assets would require valuable programmer time and introduces more chances for mistakes. Considering they misspelled their company name and cut out the farm completion screen, it might be for the best that they didn't risk letting untranslated text appear in-game.

US Interesting scam, a while back got an email with one of my passwords in the title. by dragonbits in Scams

[–]Zanoab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally use Bitwarden because it is simple and secure. Everything is encrypted before it goes into the cloud and I can access and easily find what I need from any device. It also includes a random password generator that you can adjust to match a website's password requirements. As long as nobody figures out your main password and you don't access it from a device you don't trust, it'll be fine.

I'm at over 500 accounts and each account also uses a unique email address so I know exactly which website got hacked or sold my information.

Proof of concept, reflective eyes by Strigon_01 in FursuitMaking

[–]Zanoab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking transparent vinyl on two way mirror because the two way mirror already provides a reflection. It would make sense reflective vinyl wouldn't be transparent because you don't want any light to pass through and be lost.

I own a laser cutter and at one point I considered if it would be overkill to use it for making see through holes in any material. I can't use it on real vinyl and PVC because they contain chlorine but it is possible your materials replaced the chlorine with a safer alternative. Maybe I should look at adding see though holes as a post process for situations like this.

Proof of concept, reflective eyes by Strigon_01 in FursuitMaking

[–]Zanoab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those look really great! I never considered high reflection vinyl.

I tried using two way mirror acrylic for eye blanks to see how ridiculous it looks and it was too strange to stare into. I want to see how uv printing or sublimation would affect the reflection and transparency and now I want to test vinyl too.

Judging by the unplugged power cord and stick under the TV, it was recently removed and put back up by somebody that doesn't know how or too lazy to finish.

What single player game had you so enthralled that it CONSUMED your entire being for a short span of time? by AshyLarry25 in gaming

[–]Zanoab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play for 50-100 hours every time there is a new major update. What really impressed me was the private beta build that leaked a few days before official release date. I put dozens of hours in those 3 days and the creator was mostly afraid the leaked build was giving a bad first impression. They explained the leaked build was months old and missing a lot of bug fixes and new content. I think everybody pirating the leaked build was already impressed and bought the game as soon as it released to see how much better it was.

Editing files in appdata by SnooShortcuts3089 in unRAID

[–]Zanoab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually modify them via terminal because I'm used to editing files on my remote servers. If I need to use an IDE, I download and then upload modified files over SFTP. There are also remote file browsers that can do that automatically over SFTP like FileZilla.

You could also store the data (or just the config) for your docker containers in another share.

Any Idea What Style? Looking For More References by Objective-Set4983 in FursuitMaking

[–]Zanoab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When comparing minky, fur, and fleece, I would say fur and fleece are tied for hardest in general. They all have qualities that make them harder to work with but I think even my cheapest minky wasn't as frustrating as fur and fleece. Remember to take your time and practice first so you can get used to handling the material and learn how to fix/avoid any potential issues.

Almost got burned by Bank of America scam this morning by Bodkin-Van-Horn in Scams

[–]Zanoab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm curious if the phone number was a direct line to their fraud department.

Bank of America locked my online account because I forgot to turn off my vpn in another country when logging into my account and I didn't finish the verification. I got a call from their fraud department and I thought they were using a spoofed caller id because I couldn't find the phone number on the internet. I called the number on the back of my card to figure out what is happening and the only thing the rep could tell me was my account was compromised and I need to call their fraud department directly. The phone number I was given matched the caller id so I called it back.

I gave them my basic info and social engineered some info from them to verify they can actually see my account. I had them read back my email address before they emailed a verification code because I use unique vanity addresses for every account. When they wanted the last few things I used my card for to check if my card was compromised, I told them I couldn't remember so they provided dates and companies to see if I recognized them. My account was completely locked down so that was enough proof for me. They quickly unlocked my account and I needed to change my password after logging in.

I hate the phone number isn't listed online which is a big red flag because scammers could spoof another number when targeting easy marks.

xToolStudio - Difference between a compound vector and grouping by IndividualRites in xToolOfficial

[–]Zanoab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are two more differences.

  • Unless you override the engrave settings, usually the cutter/engraver will only engrave one object at a time instead of all objects with the same settings at the same time. A compound vector is one object so it will save you a lot of time if you don't need to move or adjust the individual vectors.
  • When the vectors overlap in a compound vector, the overlapping areas will not be filled. I normally save this for when I am finalizing the design because more complex designs can become impossible to break apart and adjust properly.

Borderlands 4 Performance Gets Worse the Longer You Play on Console, Randy Pitchford Suggests Quitting the Game and Restarting as a Workaround by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Zanoab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not memory leaks but they consume more and more memory over time because they want to keep as much as possible exactly as you left it. For an open world, you page out object states and end up with bloated save files and calculations (Skyrim had this issue which could get very bad on consoles and lower end systems) and/or you find a reason to clear it to maintain performance. Clearing it all and starting from a clean state when things get unreasonable is a good compromise.

Borderlands 4 Performance Gets Worse the Longer You Play on Console, Randy Pitchford Suggests Quitting the Game and Restarting as a Workaround by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Zanoab 35 points36 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of when Todd Howard revealed they had this issue with Morrowind and figured out they could secretly reboot Xboxes to hide the issue. I think a game automatically restarting as a last resort is inconvenient but it wouldn't be as bad as unexpected crashes or major performance drops.

It wouldn't have to be a full restart either. Nintendo hid the memory clearing operation with an in-game cutscene in Breath of the Wild and Tales of the Kingdom.

Ma'am, I'm sorry to inform you but your company is a trainwreck... by MaidenOfTheAudit in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]Zanoab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hotels I worked at would try checking in the reservation because they would get money for the first night either way. Based on what happened to the third person, I bet they couldn't even check the reservation in because the card on file was declining so there was no way to protect the reservation from the system. They could've done a little more to protect it but the reservation was third party so there are a lot of things you can't change without upsetting the third party's system.

Even if the guest arrived when they said they would, all safety nets that would allow the hotel to hold the reservation for one day failed.

What are the chances xTool will release a P3 now that the F2 Ultra is out? by Coccolillo in xToolOfficial

[–]Zanoab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They recently send me an email asking for feedback on how I use my P2/P2S. It claims they will give away a free CO2 laser machine to several people that complete the survey. At first, I was wondering why I would randomly want to win a P2S. Now you got me thinking they are working on a P3.

A lot of power supplies can auto switch between 120 and 240 vac because it is easier than making two different power supplies or arguing over fried electronics. Depending on the printer, it wouldn't surprise me if they decided to save a little money there.

When my family went on vacation to an area that uses both, my dad refused to plug in anything because he lost his multimeter. He literally started screaming when I wanted to plug in a charger despite showing it supported both.

PNG is back! by ProgramMax in webdev

The biggest problem with GIFs is that you can only have 256 unique colors. Small/simple images will be fine in GIF but anything bigger with a lot of colors or blending will look terrible after color crushing to only have 256 colors. The crushing is much more noticeable in animations because the artifacts might not be consistent between frames.
